    Description

    This is skilled chemical spraying work within Palm Beach County. Diagnoses pest infiltrations (e.g., insects, weeds, and fungus) in turf grass or landscaped areas; selects and applies the appropriate chemicals to achieve control. Performs normal fertilization and maintenance functions related to overall preservation of park facilities and grounds; may serve as lead worker over another employee assigned to assist with weed control and maintenance activities. Work is performed under the supervision of a Parks Resource Superintendent and results are evaluated through visual inspections.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following:

    • Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of one (1) year of experience in public/commercial chemical spraying (i.e., athletic fields, turf grass or lawns excluding indoor bug spraying).

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    The selected candidate for this position MUST:

    • Possess a Department of Agriculture Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) License, specializing in the Ornamental and Turf categories at time of appointment, and
    • Obtain a Florida Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) training certificate of completion within three (3) months of hire.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • One (1) year of experience using turf spraying equipment,
    • One (1) year of experience calibrating and maintaining mechanical and manual equipment related to pesticide application (e.g., spray rig, hand-held sprayer, broadcast spreader, tractors), and/or Florida Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) certification (must specify on application),
    • Valid Pesticide License (Copy of License must be uploaded to online application by 5:00 P.M. on the closing date), and
    • Valid Class A CDL with Air Brake Endorsement.
