The Opportunity:

University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital (Rainbow) seeks an accomplished, board-certified pediatrician to serve as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Pediatrician-in-Chief. This highly visible leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the future of one of the nation's leading pediatric programs while advancing clinical excellence, academic distinction, research innovation, and educational excellence across the health system.

The Chair will provide strategic, operational, clinical, academic, and scientific leadership for the Department of Pediatrics, working closely with executive leadership across University Hospitals, University Hospitals Medical Group, Rainbow, and Case Western Reserve University. The successful candidate will lead a large and diverse faculty, strengthen Rainbow's position as the pediatric provider of choice across Northeast Ohio, and drive growth, quality, access, and innovation across the enterprise.

The Chair reports to senior leadership of University Hospitals Medical Group and Academic & External Affairs and serves as a key member of the leadership team shaping the future of pediatric care, research, and education across the region.

The Department:

The Department of Pediatrics is based at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital on the University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center campus in Cleveland's University Circle and serves as the pediatric academic department for Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

The Department of Pediatrics is comprised of 19 divisions and 177 physician faculty members. Faculty within the Department are employed by University Hospitals Medical Group (UHMG) or University Hospitals Medical Practices (UHMP). The Department of Pediatrics also works closely with the UH Rainbow Primary Care Institute at University Hospitals which includes approximately 24 practices in 30 locations and 200 primary care pediatricians.

The Department of Pediatrics at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Childrens Hospital has a large and well-established education mission that is deeply integrated with its roles in patient care, research, and academic medicine. As the primary pediatric teaching hospital for Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and a teaching affiliate of Northeast Ohio Medical University, Rainbow trains medical students, residents, fellows, and future pediatric leaders through a centralized infrastructure supported by the Center for Pediatric Education. The department provides robust educational experiences across the continuum of training, including approximately 127 medical students annually, 50 internships, and 100 elective rotations, while emphasizing mentorship, leadership development, scholarly achievement, and individualized career pathways.

Rainbow also supports one of the regions largest pediatric graduate medical education programs, with more than 100 residency positions across Pediatrics, Medicine-Pediatrics, Child Neurology, and Medical Genetics, along with 68 fellowship positions spanning 13 pediatric subspecialties. Fellowship programs are complemented by extensive opportunities in basic, translational, clinical, quality improvement, medical education, and health services research. Together, these programs reflect a significant commitment to developing the next generation of pediatric clinicians, physician-scientists, educators, and healthcare leaders, while reinforcing Rainbows reputation as a major academic and training center within pediatric medicine.

The Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will be a visionary, collaborative, and strategic leader. The candidate will have a proven record as a problem solver with experience working in a modern, highly matrixed academic healthcare system, and can implement innovative solutions to contemporary challenges. The new Chair will have demonstrated leadership in clinical care, research, and/or administration, and strong clinical expertise in pediatrics.

Education/Certification

• MD, DO or MD/PhD (or equivalent) with a track record of professional leadership roles in pediatrics.
• Board certified specialty field within a pediatric medical specialty.
• Eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio.
• Eligible for the rank of Professor.

The salary range for the Chair of Pediatrics and Pediatrician-in-Chief is $529,230 - $752,918.

The salary range listed reflects a good faith estimate of the potential base compensation for this physician position at the time of posting.
