Key Responsibilities:
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado
Why Join Us:
The Department of Pathology (DOP) is one of the largest and most comprehensive academic pathology departments in the Rocky Mountain region. Over the past 15 years, the Department has more than doubled in size, growing from approximately 40 to nearly 120 faculty in parallel with the remarkable expansion of its
hospital-based affiliates and the greater Denver community. Today, the Department is home to a robust cohort of physician and scientist faculty, including 77 MD faculty, alongside doctoral-level laboratorians, research scientists, veterinarian faculty, residents, fellows, and a large complement of technical and administrative staff.
The Department has a distinctive, centralized operational and financial structure organized without sections or internal centers. While faculty are widely distributed across multiple buildings and hospitals on the Anschutz Medical Campus, this horizontal model promotes administrative efficiency, intradepartmental coordination, and collaboration across subspecialty areas rather than a siloed, vertical organization. The senior leadership tier includes 13 Vice Chairs along with numerous laboratory and program directors, reflecting an intentional
investment in career development and leadership at every academic rank. The Department has proven to be a notable producer of leaders, having graduated faculty into five departmental chairs and two deanships.
Vision, Mission, and Values
Several features distinguish the Department from its academic peers: a 100
percent subspecialized, subspecialty board-certified academic faculty practice across its affiliated sites; anatomic and clinical pathology coverage 24/7 by 28 subspecialty teams; three nationally recognized reference laboratories; and one of the few fellowship programs of its kind in breast, gynecologic, and neonatal pathology, attracting fellows from across the United States, Canada, and Europe. The Department also provides the only neuropathology consultation service in Colorado and five surrounding states.
