Position Summary
The School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an accomplished, collaborative, and visionary leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Radiology.
This recruitment is Open Track/Open Rank, and the appropriate track and rank will be determined once the top candidate is selected.
Aligned with the mission of the UNC School of Medicine, the Department of Radiology is committed to improving the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and beyond through excellence in patient care, education, and research. UNC Radiology brings together outstanding clinical and research faculty, trainees, advanced practice providers, and professional staff across the full spectrum of diagnostic imaging, image-guided interventions, and radiological sciences. The Department combines the strengths of a leading academic department with the reach and opportunities of a growing health system, providing specialized imaging and interventional services across academic, hospital, ambulatory, and community settings.
The Chair will provide strategic leadership across the Department's clinical, educational, research, and administrative missions and will advance a shared vision for the future of UNC Radiology. The Chair will promote exceptional and compassionate patient care, educational excellence, scientific discovery and innovation, and the continued development of a nationally recognized academic Department. The Chair will recruit, develop, and retain outstanding faculty and leaders; foster a collaborative and high-performing culture; and ensure responsible stewardship of the Department's financial, human, technological, and institutional resources.
Working in close partnership with the School of Medicine, UNC Faculty Physicians, UNC Health, and University leadership, the Chair will advance an integrated approach to imaging and image-guided care and position the Department to respond to evolving patient needs, workforce challenges, technological advances, and changes in healthcare delivery. The Chair will foster interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthen the Department's research and educational programs, and identify opportunities for strategic growth and innovation across the academic and clinical enterprise.
As a senior institutional leader, the Chair will build strong relationships across organizational and disciplinary boundaries, contribute to broader School of Medicine and UNC Health priorities, and serve as a visible ambassador for UNC Radiology. The Chair will strengthen the Department's reputation and impact locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally while fostering a culture grounded in excellence, collaboration, compassion, professionalism, and respect.
