Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Surgical Services, the sterile processing technician is responsible for processing instrument trays and other supplies for surgical procedures, dependent on individual experience, and as per NTMC policy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Sets up and maintains instrument trays for minor and major surgial procedures, applying principles of asepsis and other appropriate guidelines.
  • Organizes instruments, equipment and supplies for easy access and maximum efficiency.
  • Ensures that all sterlized items have required sterility monitors to validate effectiveness of sterile processing.
  • Maintains accurate records of all sterilization procedures iwth immediate notification to the director of any variances, suspected or noted.
  • Ensures minimal delays in surgical schedule as a result of instrument of equipment management.
  • Uses patient transfer devices applying appropriate safety principles.
  • Ensures that preventive maintenance and quality controls are provided for sterilization equipment. 
  • Manages inventory of specific instruments and supplies. 

Qualifications

  • Current BLS Certification
  • Sterile Processing Technician certification required.
