We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and collaborative Certified School Nurse (CSN) to lead and support comprehensive school health services across three school buildings in Downers Grove, Illinois. This is an excellent opportunity for a nursing leader who enjoys both direct student care and program oversight.

In this role, you will serve as the lead Certified School Nurse, providing clinical leadership while supervising two Registered Nurses (RNs) and serving as one of the building nurses. You'll work closely with school administrators, families, healthcare providers, and special education teams to promote student health, safety, and academic success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of nursing services across three school buildings.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support two Registered Nurses to ensure high-quality, consistent healthcare delivery.
  • Serve as the primary building nurse for one assigned school, providing direct nursing care to students and staff.
  • Develop and oversee Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and health accommodations for students with medical needs.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with Illinois state law and district policies.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate appropriate follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, counselors, psychologists, special education staff, and related service providers.
  • Monitor communicable diseases and implement infection prevention protocols.
  • Maintain accurate health records and ensure compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois State Board of Education requirements.
  • Train school personnel on health-related topics, emergency procedures, medication administration, and student medical conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with families, physicians, and community healthcare providers.
  • Participate in IEP, Section 504, and multidisciplinary team meetings as needed.
  • Promote wellness initiatives and support a healthy school environment.

Qualifications

  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Nurse Endorsement (Certified School Nurse - CSN) required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous school nursing experience strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising nursing staff.
  • Knowledge of special education, IEPs, Section 504 plans, and chronic disease management in school settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic student health record systems.
  • Strong ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities across multiple school sites.
