The CRNA provides anesthesia and anesthesia related care services for patients under the supervision of anesthesiologists. Follows established standards and practices set forth by the Anesthesia Section and the organization.

- Perform and document a pre-anesthesia assessment and evaluation.
- Administer pre-anesthesia medications and fluids.
- Develop and implement an anesthetic plan that may include general, regional, and local anesthesia and intravenous sedation.
- Select, obtain, or administer the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic; to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis, and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery.
- Select, apply, or insert appropriate noninvasive and invasive monitoring modalities for collection of patient physiological data.
- Manage a patient's airway and pulmonary status using endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy or extubation.
- Manage emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, or administering medications, fluids, or ventilatory support in order to maintain homeostasis to provide relief from pain or anesthesia side effects, or to prevent or manage complications.
- Respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency drugs or fluids or using basic or advanced cardiac life support.
- Additional nurse anesthesia responsibilities, which are within the expertise of the individual CRNA.

Education
- Graduate from approved school of nursing. - Required
- Graduate from a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the AANA Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. - Required
- Continuing education of 40 hours every 2 years as required by AANA Council on Recertification. - Required
Work Experience
- May start immediately after graduating with experience and medical oversight.
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) - State Licensure/Or Compact State Licensure - Missouri - Required Upon Hire
- Certification by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists (CCNA) or recertification by the Council on Recertification, or by a predecessor or successor agency to either, If initial certification is pending, applicants should show evidence of graduation from an approved nurse anesthesia educational program. - Required Upon Hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required Upon Hire
