Overview
Military & Health Research Foundation (MHRF) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant to support patient care services in the Emergency Room at Madigan Army Medical Center, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Tacoma, WA. This position plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment in support of the military healthcare mission.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical support skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond effectively in urgent situations, along with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. This role is essential in assisting healthcare providers, supporting emergency patient care activities, and contributing to a safe, efficient, and compassionate environment for service members and their families.
- Duty Location: Madigan Army Medical Center, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Tacoma, WA 98431. No Telework allowed.
- Duty Hours: HCWs may be scheduled anytime 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to meet mission requirements. Shift schedules include: 0645-1915, 0645-1515, 1145-0015, 1145-2015, 1845-0715, 1845-0315.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
- Provide age-appropriate patient care based on SOPs, provider orders, and individual patient needs.
- Monitor and record vital signs, report changes or concerns to medical staff.
- Assist with hygiene, safety, daily living activities, and patient mobility.
- Support providers during exams and procedures, including patient preparation and specimen collection.
- Observe and report patient changes, including serving as a safety attendant when needed.
- Document care and communicate patient information to the healthcare team.
- Assist with patient transport, admissions, discharges, and basic administrative tasks.
- Maintain clean, stocked patient care areas and support clinic operations.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills in English with patients and healthcare team members.
- Utilize basic computer skills and medical knowledge, including documentation, terminology, and customer service practices.
- Exhibit professionalism, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills when working with diverse patient populations.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree/Education: Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
- Experience: Minimum one year experience within the last two years as a certified nurse assistant working in an Emergency Room or Urgent Care post-graduation/course completion.
- Legal Authorization to Work in the United States: The contract worker performing under this contract must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Certification(s):
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certificate
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Certification cards must display the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Web-based (on-line) classes are not acceptable by the Government.
Physical Demands
- HCW’s work may require some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable crouching, bending, standing, stooping, stretching, or walking, such as performing regular and recurring medical activities, inspections, or to observe healthcare operations in treatment facilities. Working with patients requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and strenuous physical exertion, such as lifting objects greater than 50 pounds.
Additional Information
- Occupational Health: The contract worker shall be required to obtain documentation of required physical testing or a report of a physical examination.
- Tuberculosis Screening: The Contractor ensure contract workers shall be screened for tuberculosis (TB). In addition, contract worker will be screened prior to reporting for services at the place of performance for the following: N/A
- Health Requirements. The Contractor shall provide documentation certifying health requirements such as immunizations, annual vaccinations, and physical examination when required at the time of initial placement.

What We Do
MHRF provides enterprise, program, and project level research administration and solutions. We can provide staffing, equipment, supplies, end user testing, FDA submissions and clinical trial support, and any other necessary resources in a fast, efficient and compliant manner.
MHRF supports military medicine by maximizing access to timely research and novel innovations that can improve the health and welfare of our soldiers and the readiness of their medical support and personnel. We do this by building new relationships with industry researchers and facilities. The research and development pipeline and the technologies that result are managed and supported through agile practices and management, rapid prototyping and lean startup principles to ultimately reach commercialization. MHRF serves as the hub between the researchers, funding agencies, end users, regulatory agencies and manufacturing partners to keep the lines of communication open with a clear focus on milestones and deliverables.
