    This position will assist in-patient care throughout the nursing areas and is responsible for: the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, the dispatch of services and the appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation to maximize his/her safety. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.

    • Current Nursing Assistant certification.
    • Minimum of two years patient care experience.
    • Observes and reports patient's status and needs.
    • Answers call lights and attends to/reports patient needs.
    • Obtains specimens and transport to and sends through designated tube.
    • Transfers, moves, and repositions patients.
    • Makes occupied and unoccupied beds.
    • Maintains current knowledge and certification requirements.
    • Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.
    • Respects and regards the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
    • Takes vital signs
    • Measures patient blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, and oxygen saturation.
    • Records findings in the EMR and reports values to the primary RN.
    • Obtains blood glucose from patients and reports results to RN.
    • Empty tubes and drains to include but not limited to: indwelling urinary catheters, J/P (Jackson Pratt) drains, and Hemovac drains. Record the output in the EMR and report them to the primary RN.
    • Assists RN with simple bedside procedures to include but not limited to: urinary catheter
    • insertion and/or removal, tubes and drains, and bandage changes.
    • Measures and records food and liquid intake, urinary, fecal, tubes and drains output and report
    • values to RNs.
    • Bladder scan patients and report the results to the primary RN.
    • Reinforce/encourage patient after initial education/teaching has been completed by the RN.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
