Job Summary:

Sarasota Memorial First Physicians Group is seeking to employ two (2) PRN Certified Nurse Midwives to join our OB Hospitalist group. This CNM group is responsible for providing 24/7 in-house coverage alongside our OB Hospitalists at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida.

 

Qualified candidates would join 7 experienced CNMs and would be responsible for coverage working variable 12-hour shifts (7A-7P and 7p -7A). Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) is listed among U.S. News’ 50 Best Hospitals for Obstetrics/Gynecology Care for 2025 – 2026 as well as holding a  Level III Maternal Care Verification from the Joint Commission, in collaboration with the American College of Obstetrics. SMH is the system’s 897-bed flagship facility with a CMS 5-star rating for its overall quality and is the only hospital in Florida and one of just 33 across the nation to maintain its top rating since 2016.

Position Highlights:

  • Work in Collaboration with OB/Community Hospitalist teams.
  • Provide assessment and care to OB triage patients.
  • Labor management/births for walk-in patients.
  • First assist with c-sections.
  • Postpartum rounding.
  • Respond to emergencies on L&D/Postpartum floor
  • Post-operative follow-up exams for OB Hospitalist surgical patients.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN-CNM in Florida.
  • Graduate of an accredited program.
  • Experience triaging and delivering high-risk patients.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) reflects the mission, vision, and values of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The APRN III typically work in a multidisciplinary setting including first assist, procedures (chest tube, line placement, etc.), multiple inpatient units managing patient care which includes critical care, trauma, and surgery. An APRN is a registered nurse and therefore can perform all duties that are considered routine duties of a registered nurse. In addition, an APRN holds a master’s or doctoral degree. The APRN functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced nursing care to patients within the APRN’s scope of practice.

Required Qualifications:

- Require advanced degree from an accredited school or college of nursing* *Must have had a Medicare number in the State of Florida prior to 1/1/03; if not, must have a Master's Degree in nursing in addition to being a Registered Professional Nurse who is authorized by Florida to practice in accordance with state law.
- Require approved APRN board certification**. **Must be certified as a APRN by a recognized national certifying body having established standards for APRN’s. The following organizations are recognized national certifying bodies for the Nurse Practitioner: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; American Nurses Credentialing Center; National Certification Corporation for Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties; National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners & Nurses; Oncology Nurses Certification Corporation; Critical Care Certification Corporation; National Commission on Certification; and American Association of Heart Failure Nurses; and the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).

- Prefer ability to work independently and effectively with physicians and other allied health personnel in the hospital and/or office setting.
