Certified Medical Assistant

Candidates will provide proof of current certification from one of the approved certifying registries including: • CMA with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) • CCMA with the National Health Career Association (NHA) • RMA with the American Medical Technologists (AMT) • American Registry of Medical Assistants (NHCWA) • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) • National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) • American Allied Health (AAH) RMA with the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA). What You'll Do: Provides direct patient care, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, reviewing medical history, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with treatments and procedures within scope of practice.

What We're Looking For:

Education:  High School or GED, required.  Candidates will provide proof of current certification from one of the approved certifying registries including: • CMA with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) • CCMA with the National Health Career Association (NHA) • RMA with the American Medical Technologists (AMT) • American Registry of Medical Assistants (NHCWA) • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) • National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) • American Allied Health (AAH) RMA with the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA). If a candidate is not currently certified, they must obtain certification or registration by the end of the sixth month of their hire and sign an education agreement.

Experience:  Previous work in a medical office, preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

Current certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire as CMA, RMA or CCMA, required

Current State Drivers License (Palliative Care Only), required

Additional Skills/Requirements (required):  Ability to successfully complete generic and department specific skills validation and competency testing.

 

What You'll Do:

• Provides direct patient care, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, reviewing medical history, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with treatments and procedures within scope of practice.
• Performs clinical laboratory duties, including specimen collection, venipuncture, point-of-care testing, quality control, documentation, and communication of results.
• Administers medications and immunizations as ordered by the clinician and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Maintains accurate patient information and documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), including referrals, lab requests, procedures, and other required clinical data.
• Provides patient education and reinforces clinician instructions regarding treatment plans, medications, preventive care, and self-care management.
• Supports registration, scheduling, check-out, insurance verification, payment collection, and other front-office functions as needed.
• Collaborates with clinicians and team members to provide safe, efficient, high-quality patient care and identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Maintains required clinical competencies, certifications, continuing education, and mandatory training.
• Provides a welcoming, respectful, and patient-centered experience through clear communication, service excellence, and adherence to Novant Health's mission, vision, and values.
• May have occasional exposure to radiation depending on the assigned clinic or specialty.
