Position Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and patient‑centered outpatient care. Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, the CMA performs clinical and administrative duties, demonstrates strong communication skills, and prioritizes tasks in a fast‑paced environment. This role requires clinical competency, professionalism, and a commitment to high‑quality patient service.
Location: Sibley Medical Building in Washington, D.C
Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7:45 AM - 4:15 PM (depending on clinic flow) & Wednesday 12:45 PM - 5:15 PM
Responsibilities:
Patient care skills — Performs core clinical tasks safely and accurately while maintaining effective written and verbal communication
Electronic monitoring equipment — Operates devices used to track vital signs and patient status in real time
Clinical data entry — Inputs, retrieves, and interprets patient information using electronic health systems
Clinical information organization — Summarizes and communicates patient data clearly to support care coordination
Interpersonal communication — Interacts effectively with patients, families, physicians, and the care team to support high‑quality outpatient care
General computer use — Utilizes standard applications and electronic health record platforms
Policy adherence — Follows established procedures and regulatory standards
Patient rooming and procedure support — Rooms patients and prepares them for evaluation; assists physicians and physician assistants during exams; sets up rooms, equipment, and supplies for procedures; and supports providers during in‑office procedures
Patient communication and message management — Answers patient calls and provides timely, accurate responses; reviews and responds to RightFax communications; monitors and manages electronic health record (EHR) in‑basket messages
Prior authorizations — Completes prior authorization requests to support patient access to medications and services
Additional duties — Performs other tasks as assigned by physicians, providers, nurses, preceptors, and leadership
Qualifications:
2 years of Certified Medical Assistant experience required; 3 years preferred
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program
Active certification required from one of the following approved agencies:
CMA — Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)
CCMA — Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA)
RMA — Registered Medical Assistant (AMT)
NCMA — National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT)
NRCMA — Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)
Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire
