As a Certified Medical Assistant in UVA Health's Infectious Disease Clinic, you will provide hands-on clinical support for a unique patient population receiving specialized care from across Virginia. This primarily on-site opportunity offers a Monday through Friday schedule with no weekends or holidays, along with the ability to practice at the top of your certification in a collaborative academic health environment.
The Role
You will be an integral member of a highly functional multidisciplinary team committed to accessible, professional, and patient-centered care. Working closely with specialty providers and clinical colleagues, you will help patients move efficiently through their visits while supporting the clinical workflows that keep the practice responsive and coordinated.
In an average day, you may:
Deliver direct patient care within the Certified Medical Assistant scope of practice.
Prepare examination and procedure areas, ensuring providers have the supplies and equipment needed for safe, efficient care.
Assist specialty providers during procedures.
Coordinate medication refill requests and support prior authorization workflows.
Monitor and manage in-basket activity with accuracy, urgency, and attention to follow-through.
Communicate with patients, providers, and team members to support continuity of care.
Adapt to the pace and complexity of a busy specialty clinic while maintaining a professional and compassionate patient experience.
This role is well suited for a clinically strong CMA who enjoys direct patient interaction, takes pride in precise clinical execution, and wants to build deeper expertise in infectious disease medicine. Specialty clinic or procedural support experience is especially valuable, as is familiarity with medication refills, prior authorizations, and ambulatory clinical workflows.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: None required.
Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), the AMT (American Medical Technologists), NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions), the ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants), or the NHA (National Healthcare Association).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The job requires standing for prolonged periods and frequently bending/stooping/traveling. Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $19.37 - $28.47 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
