Every patient experience in a surgical specialty clinic depends on a highly skilled clinical team working seamlessly behind the scenes. As a Certified Medical Assistant in UVA Health's General Surgery Clinic, you will play an essential role in supporting providers, coordinating patient care, and helping ensure exceptional outcomes for patients navigating complex surgical needs.
This opportunity is ideal for a CMA who enjoys a fast-paced clinical environment, values teamwork, and wants to practice at the top of their certification. You'll join a collaborative outpatient team where your clinical expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to patient-centered care directly impact both the patient experience and clinic operations.
This is a Monday through Friday position during clinic hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no weekends or holidays.
The Role
As a Certified Medical Assistant within the General Surgery Clinic, you'll work closely with surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patients throughout their surgical care journey. This is a hands-on clinical role that offers meaningful patient interaction and the opportunity to contribute to a high-functioning specialty care team.
On a typical day, you may:
Prepare exam and procedure rooms to ensure providers have the resources needed to deliver efficient care.
Assist providers during procedures and support a variety of clinical workflows within the clinic.
Participate in medication refill processes and prior authorization activities.
Manage in-basket responsibilities and help facilitate timely patient communication.
Perform direct patient care activities consistent with your certification and scope of practice.
Collaborate with providers and fellow team members to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
Support clinic operations in a dynamic environment where adaptability and strong organizational skills are valued.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: None required.
Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), the AMT (American Medical Technologists), NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions), the ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants), or the NHA (National Healthcare Association).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The job requires standing for prolonged periods and frequently bending/stooping/traveling. Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $19.37 - $26.83 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
