    POSITION SUMMARY 

    The Certified Pharmacy Technician maintains a high level of interaction with in-office dispensary patients and physicians to ensure prescriptions are being filled and delivered correctly, and that the patient is taking the medication properly. Responsible for all aspects of medication inventory, purchase, and storage. The Certified Pharmacy Technician serves as an active member of the Care Team structure at UCI, supporting the providers and staff with patient management and administrative tasks.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

     

    • Obtaining and recording patient medical histories, vitals, test results and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
    • Will coordinate oncolytic treatments.
    • Will dispense catheters and catheter supplies.
    • Will prepare prescriptions from In-Office Dispensary. Will complete paperwork related to the filling of the prescription.
    • Communicate with patients regarding oncolytic treatments, catheter refills and medication refills, instructions for taking medications.
    • Provide patient education as appropriate.
    • Communicate with patients regarding adherence to prescribed therapies.
    • Assist patients with insurance and work on prior authorizations.
    • Answer patient questions and troubleshoot/resolve them promptly.
    • Maintains a safe and clean workspace by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
    • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
    • Organizes medications to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions; preparing labels; calculating quantities.
    • Work as part of a team to provide support to other members of the healthcare team.
    • Maintain current notes and paperwork related to the patient’s drug therapy and care plan.
    • Maintains records by recording and filing physicians' orders and prescriptions.
    • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information.
    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
    • Perform all tasks in a safe manner that is consistent with corporate policies as well as state and federal laws.
    • May be trained in other Clinical areas to provide assistance when needed.
    • Manage all in-office dispensary and high-cost medications/supplies inventory.
    • Coordinate with representatives for samples of medications.
    • Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
    • Delivering compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
    • Ensuring compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
    • Preparing and administering medications for patients as directed by physicians.
    • Other duties as assigned

    ·       High school or equivalent (Preferred)

    • Pharmacy technician experience: 1 year (Preferred)
