We are a busy Primary Care Clinic at the Ambulatory Care Center in downtown Richmond. We are a part of the Division of Internal Medicine Residency Program and support attending managed & resident managed clinics for all levels of primary care health needs and also urgent care needs. Our clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with some flexibility. No weekends, nights or holidays are required. At least 1 year of RN experience, preferably in the clinic setting, is required and previous medical surgical and/or home health experience is beneficial. Certified Medical Assistant Position
The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as:
• American Association of Medical Assistants
• American Medical Technologists
• The National Association of Healthcare Professions
• American Registry of Medical Assistants
• National Healthcare Association
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as:

Experience Required
- One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program
- No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
- Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience Preferred
- Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
- Previous experience in an academic health care environment
Education/Training Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/Training Preferred
- Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as:
• Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
• Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
Independent Actions Required
- Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
- Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.

Additional Position Requirements
- Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
- Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements and/or as needed.
