    Certified Clinical Medical Assistant- Hematotherapy

    Seeking a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant for BCHP's Hematotherapy Division in Hawthorne, NY.  Candidates must have a Medical Assistant Certification to be considered for this position.

    This position's schedule will be Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. 

    The pay range of this position will be $25/hr-$30/hr, negotiable based on experience.

    Primary Purpose

    Under the direction Of the Nurse Manager or designee and Medical Director of Hematotherapy, the Medical Assistant provides initial Hematotherapy patient triage, registration and administrative services; assists with direct patient care and performs specialized procedures Of a routine nature. as directed by Hematotherapy policies and procedures.

    SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Obtains patients vital signs, height and weight
    • Prepares patient exam and treatment rooms, maintaining adequate stock
    • Performs phlebotomy and urinalysis as necessary, identifies and labels specimens accordingly
    • Prepares samples for laboratory, completing all necessary paperwork
    • Transports samples and blood products to and from laboratory and blood bank when necessary
    • Maintains clean and sterilized equipment, instruments, and work area following safety, cleanliness and infection control procedures
    • Logs in lab results and ensures results are incorporated into patient charts
    • Orders, receives and inventories necessary supplies
    • Provides excellent verbal and written communication
    • Able to multi-task and set priorities accordingly.  May be requested to perform other duties as necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the office
    • Maintains strictest confidentiality in accordance with Hematotherapy Program and BCHP policy and HIPAA regulations
    • Checks and empties Biohazard containers as per OSHA guidelines
    • Assists with documentation of laboratory values and other pertinent clinical patient findings
    • Supports front desk staff with answering phone calls, faxing, scanning documents into the EMR
    • Performs and documents daily equipment quality control

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Medical Assistant certification and BLS certification required
    • High School diploma or equivalent, Bachelor Degree Preferred
    • One (1) to two (2) years prior experience preferred
    • Computer literate
