    Job Description:
     
    Representative Tasks
    • Operation and monitoring of multiple fuel water tube or firetube boilers and associated auxiliary equipment to provide steam or high temperature hot water for building heat, sterilization, and other facility needs. 
    • Starting, regulating, and securing boilers; adjusting combustion controls; shifting between natural gas and fuel oil as required; and maintaining proper steam pressure and temperature. 
    • Testing boiler water samples, performing chemical treatment, and documenting test results to protect equipment and ensure safe, efficient operation. 
    • Performance of routine operational maintenance (e.g., on valves, pumps, burners, feedwater systems, condensate systems, safety devices) and coordinate more extensive repairs with appropriate trades. 
    • Responding to boiler and steam system alarms, performing afterhours trouble call functions for Engineering systems when assigned, and coordination of corrective actions. 
    • Deliverables Daily boiler plant operating logs documenting pressures, temperatures, fuel usage, and equipment status. 
    • Boiler water chemistry logs and treatment records documenting test results and chemical additions. 
    • Boiler safety device test records (e.g., safety valve and interlock checks) as required by code and VA policy. 
    • Trouble call and incident reports when abnormal events or outages occur, including actions taken and recommendations. 
    • Provide minor repairs and preventive maintenance such as assisting in the installation of pumps, rearranging steam lines, valves, etc. and troubleshooting electrical systems, within the boiler plant, in gas and oil burners. 
    • Incumbent operates graphic control computer, and monitors alarms present in utility plant. 
    • Manuals, directives, regulations, and other miscellaneous guides- guide the operator. Incumbent must have ability to interpret the aforementioned and apply to all facets of the combined plant operation
    Compensation: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour
