    PATIENT CARE COUNSELOR-CHARLIE HALL BLVD
     JOB SUMMARY: 
    Patient Care Counselors are responsible for educating patients on Retina procedures, have knowledge of all types of Retina Surgeries that are available as well as Pre and Post Op instructions.  Additionally, Patient Care Counselors follow-up with patients after their surgery has been performed.  They are the liaison between the clinical staff and the patient. 
    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (other duties as required): 
    1. Educate patients on the procedures recommended by their physician
    2. Review Alphaon and Care Credit with the patients and provide a pamphlet if they are interested as evidenced by a patient’s financial need. 
    3. Schedule all Consults, Surgery and Post OP appointments.
    4. Review all consents and surgery plans are signed and sent to the surgery center.
    5. Review patient chart for previous balances and check for Insurance Verification share notes. 
    6. Collect fee for procedures in addition to, any co-pays, coinsurances and deductibles. 
    7. Review the cost for the surgery, what is covered by insurance and what is patients’ responsibility. 
    8. Communicate and schedule the surgery times with the patient and all other appointments needed.
    9. Confirm the patients scheduled for each day of surgery, all balances have been collected, and all appointments have been made. 
    10. Assist with scheduling referrals.
    11. Assist in check-in and check-out, as needed.
    12. Assist in answering phones and returning patient calls. 
    13. Adherence to applicable laws, regulations and contractual obligations. Follows the principles of the Compliance Program as well as the Code of Conduct.

    Education and Experience:
    1. Experience within a professional environment with a strong customer service focus
    2. Previous experience in the medical field preferred; experience in optometry or ophthalmology a plus.
    3. High School Diploma or GED required, willing to train the right person,

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
    1. This is a full-time position located in Charleston, SC
    2. Monday - Friday
    3. Travel to other locations as necessary
