Position Summary:
The Patient Access Center (PAC) is responsible for referral management, insurance eligibility checking and full benefit verification, as well as pre-visit & follow-up visit authorization tasks for the Outpatient Division. PAC Coordinators can work within one or several of areas mentioned and beyond being a part of the PAC team, they will collaborate with Clinic Front Desk Coordinators, Clinic Managers, and other support departments as needed. PAC Coordinators are essential to ensure patient access to our care is efficient and best in class.
Job Responsibilities:
Scheduling
- Referral Management
- Call center agent for new patients looking to schedule services
- Tracking and obtaining pre-authorizations (when required)
Verification
- Obtain eligibility and patient benefits
- Acquire pre-certification (when required)
- Call center agent for new patients and front line staff with insurance questions
Authorization
- Call center agent for patients and front line staff with authorization questions
- Obtain follow-up authorization (when required)
Level 1 PAC Coordinator
- Learn and demonstrate proficiency for role in one primary area: Scheduling, Verification, or Authorization
- Understand and demonstrate culture of organization and department
- Comply with established daily tasks, organization and department policy and procedures
Level 2 PAC Coordinator
- Level 1 responsibilities for two areas: primary and secondary (Scheduling, Verification, and/or Authorization)
- Assist teammates in job-related functions
- Provide support in primary and secondary areas
Level 3 PAC Coordinator
- Level 1 responsibilities for three areas: primary, secondary, tertiary (Scheduling, Verification, and Authorization)
- Assist teammates in job-related functions
- Provide support in primary, secondary, and tertiary areas
- Act as mentor to teammates and assist in department training and staff development
Job Qualifications:
All PAC Coordinators:
- High school education required
- Experience in healthcare is strongly recommended (ex: patient scheduling, insurance eligibility/verification, and or authorization).

Level 1 PAC Coordinator
- 0-3 years healthcare experience
Level 2 PAC Coordinator
- 1 year tenure in Department preferred
- Typically 3-6 years of medical experience
- Strong contributor / high performer in Level 1 PAC Coordinator role
- Completion of 160 hours of training for secondary area
Level 3 PAC Coordinator
- Must have 1 year tenure in Department
- Typically 6-9 years of medical experience
- Strong contributor / high performer in Level 2 PAC Coordinator role
- Completion of 160 hours of training for tertiary area
