As a Central Utility Controls Engineer, you will support the design, development, testing, commissioning, and implementation of automation and control solutions for Boiler, Chiller, Water Polishing, and Balance of Plant (BOP) systems. You will work with modern automation technologies from leading industry OEMs to deliver reliable and efficient Central Utility solutions.
Define, develop, test, and implement control and automation solutions for Central Utility applications.
Create and develop Functional Specifications, including Sequences of Operation (SOO) and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Collaborate with Electrical Designers to develop complete project drawing packages.
Develop, configure, test, and deploy PLCs, DCSs, and HMIs for Central Utility applications.
Develop detailed Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) plans and support the execution of both.
Support loop checks, system start-up, commissioning, and field troubleshooting to ensure successful deployment of Central Utility solutions.
Provide formal and informal customer training on system operation, controls, and automation functionality.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues with existing control and automation systems.
Collaborate with engineering, design, project management, field personnel, and customers to successfully execute project scope.
Support projects throughout the full lifecycle, from initial requirements and design through testing, commissioning, and final deployment.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
3–6 years of relevant controls, automation, or process controls experience.
Working knowledge of Central Utility automation and control functions, including one or more of the following:
Boiler combustion controls
Three-element boiler control
Burner Management Systems (BMS)
Chiller controls and staging
Water polishing systems
Combined Heat & Power (CHP)
District heating and/or cooling
Other industrial utility control applications
Hands-on experience with one or more of the following automation platforms or equivalent:
Rockwell Automation
AVEVA
Ignition
Emerson DeltaV
Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including one or more of the following:
Modbus
EtherNet/IP
DNP3
OPC
BACnet
PROFINET
Ability and willingness to travel approximately 25% for customer meetings, site visits, commissioning, and field activities.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience leading technical activities or portions of project scope.
Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and coordinate the work of others.
Experience with industrial utilities, process controls, power generation, HVAC/central utility systems, or related automation applications.
Additional years of relevant controls, automation, or process engineering experience.
