Overview
The Central Admissions Specialist supports the admissions department's activities in the pre-admission, admission, discharge, and follow up processes.
Essential Functions:
Receives prospective resident referrals and reviews financially and clinically with supporting tools. i.e. clinical and financial grid from assigned accounts
Confirms level of care approval obtained and or OBRA screen (PASSAR, MIMR) when indicated
Confirms financial approval and acquires necessary documentation
Obtains prior approval number from payer on a per case basis when authorized
Communicates potential risks to Administrator and Director of Nursing
Confirms specialized equipment is ordered as indicated (review contract content for need to obtain prior approval from authorized payer)
Complete demographic information in AHT or PCC, scan, email or fax to appropriate facility and department.
Receives necessary financial information from discharging source prior to patient arriving, distribute to case management, social services, and business office
Tracks acute hospital admissions to follow up and facilitate readmission of residents
Coordinates weekend/holiday admissions
Facilitates receipt of all necessary documentation from referring institution
Reviews computerized census system daily
Maintains waiting list and inquiry list
Coordinates room assignment designation
Access continuing education opportunities appropriate to responsibilities
Promotes optimal communication among program staff members, facility staff, referrals sources, physicians and residents
Appropriately accesses the resources of the company's regional offices for consultation and program development support
Seeks out external resources through conferences, workshops, etc. as necessary. Routinely shares personal knowledge with staff, other managers and facility personnel
Participates in sales events and meetings as needed in medical community or in the non-medical community.
Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting to change, patient needs, and customer expectations; meets company standards relating to deadlines and attendance
Establishes and maintains exemplary standards for department appearance and staff presentment; ensures compliance with company and facility policies and procedures
Adheres to all safety and risk management protocols and programs
Participates in direct and indirect patient care activities as warranted
Participates in quality improvement activities, which reduce cost and increase efficiency through improved systems and processes
Exhibits courtesy, compassion and respect to residents, families, visitors, physicians, administrators and coworkers
