JOB OPENING:

We have a great career opportunity available for a Center for the Book Coordinator in our Columbia, South Carolina headquarters. The South Carolina Center for the Book Coordinator plans, creates, implements, and evaluates programs and special services for statewide literacy and literary initiatives to increase awareness and celebrate South Carolina's literary heritage and culture.

The candidate must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact courteously and effectively with internal and external customers. They should have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines under limited supervision. They must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with all levels of staff and management. They must demonstrate excellent public speaking skills.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Increase cultural awareness and recognition of South Carolina's literary arts by coordinating with libraries, institutions, and organizations to provide literary programming through the South Carolina Center for the Book.
  • Support statewide endeavors committed to increasing literacy through programs, projects, communication, and committee work.
  • Cross-functional collaboration to successfully plan and coordinate public programs, and events, including associated logistics, that promote and support the State Librarys collections, programs and services, and the Center for the Book.
  • Develop and provide literary content that promotes South Carolina's literary heritage and culture through social media and web platforms.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and relevant program experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree.

Experience planning and conducting events and programs, tracking associated tasks involved in the execution of projects, grant implementation, establishing community partnerships, and data collection/evaluation skills.

Additional Comments

Work takes place in an office environment. Overnight travel is not expected for this position, however may be occasionally necessary. Some local travel is expected. Occasional work on evenings and weekends.
