Position Overview

Stand-By Personnel is seeking a reliable and experienced CDL Class A Driver to make local deliveries of steel products using flatbed trucks. This position offers regular daytime hours, local routes, and the benefit of being home every day with no weekend work.

The ideal candidate has experience operating manual-transmission commercial vehicles, understands proper flatbed load securement, and is comfortable using boomer chains and straps to safely transport steel materials. No tarping is required.




Required Experience & Skills

• Valid CDL Class A license required
• Manual transmission experience required
• No automatic transmission restriction
• Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and DOT record
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle safety requirements
• Ability to properly secure steel loads using boomer chains and straps
• Strong safety awareness and defensive driving habits
• Dependable attendance and punctuality
• Professional communication and customer service skills




Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Safely transport steel products to customers using a flatbed truck
• Operate manual-transmission commercial vehicles on local delivery routes
• Properly secure steel loads using boomer chains and occasional straps
• Verify loads are safely secured before leaving the facility
• Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Inspect securement equipment and report damaged or unsafe equipment
• Follow all DOT regulations and company transportation safety procedures
• Maintain accurate delivery paperwork, vehicle records, and required documentation
• Communicate professionally with dispatch, customers, and internal personnel
• Complete deliveries safely and according to established schedules
• Maintain company vehicles and equipment in clean and safe operating condition
• Perform additional delivery-related duties as assigned




Preferred Qualifications

• Previous flatbed steel delivery experience
• Experience transporting structural steel or other heavy industrial materials
• Strong knowledge of chain and strap load-securement procedures
• Previous local commercial delivery experience
• Familiarity with industrial, manufacturing, or steel distribution environments




Load Securement

Drivers must be comfortable securing flatbed loads using:

• Boomer chains
• Chain securement methods
• Occasional straps
• Proper DOT-compliant load-securement procedures




No tarping is required for this position.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to safely climb in and out of commercial vehicles throughout the workday
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and load-securement activities
• Ability to safely handle chains, straps, and related securement equipment
• Comfortable working outdoors around flatbed trucks and steel materials
• Ability to perform physically active delivery duties while wearing required PPE
