CDL-A UTILITY / BACKUP DRIVER – ATLANTA, GA

$275/Day ($1,375+ Weekly) | Paid Weekly | Home Daily | Monday–Friday

$1,375/week based on five days; additional days worked are paid at $275/day.

Cornerstone Driver Solutions is recruiting CDL-A Company Drivers for a Utility / Backup Driver position based in the Decatur/Atlanta, Georgia area.

This is a home-daily opportunity for a dependable CDL-A driver who is comfortable covering multiple routes, changing assignments, overnight or early-morning starts, and occasional Saturday work.

As a Utility Driver, you won't be assigned to just one permanent route. You'll serve as a backup for regular route drivers and hostler operations, covering vacations, sick days, absences, and other staffing needs.

When route coverage isn't needed, you may assist with truck and trailer shuttling, hostler work, and other minor operational duties.

PAY & COMPENSATION

$275 PER DAY

Drivers are paid $275 for each day worked, with pay issued weekly.

Based on a standard five-day workweek:

$275 × 5 days = approximately $1,375 per week

$1,375 × 52 weeks = approximately $71,500 annualized

Actual earnings will depend on the number of days worked.

Saturday work may be required, particularly during peak season, which can increase weekly earnings when additional days are worked.

HOME TIME & SCHEDULE

HOME DAILY

The normal schedule is Monday–Friday, with drivers generally returning home each day or most nights.

However, this is a utility/backup position, so flexibility is an important part of the job.

Drivers must be prepared for:

• Variable start times
• Overnight starts
• Early-morning starts
• Route coverage assignments
• Some Saturday work
• Different routes from day to day
• Schedule changes based on operational needs

Start times can be as early as approximately 11:00 PM or midnight, while other routes may begin as late as approximately 4:00 AM.

PEAK SEASON REQUIREMENTS

Peak season generally runs from late October through the winter holidays.

During this period, drivers must be prepared for:

• Mandatory Monday–Saturday delivery schedules
• Six-day workweeks
• Additional route coverage
• Additional schedule flexibility
• Coverage outside your normal assignment

Drivers who are unable to work Saturdays during peak season should not apply for this position.

RUNNING AREA

Utility drivers may operate throughout:

• Georgia
• Alabama
• Tennessee

Your assigned route may change based on the needs of the operation.

This position is designed for a driver who is comfortable going where coverage is needed rather than running the same route every day.

FREIGHT & DELIVERY

Drivers operate 53' dry van trailers transporting merchandise freight, including:

• Apparel
• Housewares
• General merchandise

LOADING & UNLOADING

Trailers are preloaded at the shipper, so drivers do not load freight at the shipping location.

At store locations, however, hand unloading is required.

Drivers are provided with:

• Hand trucks
• Rollers

Drivers should be comfortable with the physical demands of hand unloading freight at store stops.

This is not a no-touch position.

EQUIPMENT

Drivers will primarily operate:

• Day-cab tractors
• 53' dry van trailers
• PeopleNet tablets / ELDs
• Hostler and shuttle equipment when assigned

Additional operational support includes:

• On-site truck parking
• 24-hour dispatch support
• 24-hour breakdown support

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Utility / Backup Driver, your responsibilities may include:

• Covering routes when regular drivers are unavailable
• Covering vacation and sick-day absences
• Covering hostler positions when needed
• Operating routes throughout GA, AL and TN
• Making scheduled deliveries
• Maintaining strict on-time performance
• Hand unloading freight at store locations
• Safely operating a tractor-trailer
• Completing required vehicle inspections
• Shuttling trucks and trailers
• Performing hostler duties when assigned
• Assisting the Driver Manager with operational needs
• Performing minor operational duties when requested
• Assisting with training new drivers when requested
• Communicating professionally with dispatch, management and customers

HIRING AREA

Applicants should live within approximately 50 miles of Atlanta, Georgia.

The primary account location is in Decatur, GA, and drivers must be able to reliably report to the assigned location and cover routes as needed.

Because this is a utility position, the ability to reliably report to the account and cover assigned routes is essential.

CDL-A DRIVER REQUIREMENTS

Qualified applicants must generally meet the following requirements:

• Valid Class A CDL
• 3+ months of verifiable Class A driving experience
  
• Ability to meet applicable DOT and carrier qualification requirements
• Commercial driving experience preferred
• Safe and professional driving record
