Location: El Pasoans Fighting Hunger (9541 Plaza Circle, El Paso, TX)

Position Type: Hourly, full-time

Pay: $16.25/hr for CDL-A

Structure: Reports to Transportation Manager

Hours: 6:00 AM until deliveries end (usually between 2:00 - 3:00 PM). Alternating weeks of Monday through Friday one week and Monday through Saturday (with one mid-week day off) the next, totaling 10 working days per pay period.

THE ROLE

El Pasoans Fighting Hunger employs CDL drivers under three primary designations: CDL OTR Driver, CDL Local A Driver, and CDL Local B Driver.

  • CDL OTR Drivers perform routes outside a 150-mile radius from headquarters.

  • CDL Local A and B Drivers operate within the 150-mile radius.

All drivers are assigned a primary designation upon hire; however, assignments may change based on business needs. Compensation will correspond to the assignment being performed.

The Local Driver ensures that food reaches our partner agencies and community distribution sites safely and on time. This role is the critical link between our warehouse and the people we serve across El Paso. You will represent EPFH in the community daily, delivering not just food but our commitment to ending hunger with professionalism, care, and a collaborative spirit.

Driving & Delivery:

  • Safely operate large commercial vehicles within the El Paso region for local deliveries and pickups.

  • Deliver and unload food to partner agencies on schedule.

  • Pick up donated products from retail stores, food drives, and other local donors as scheduled.

  • Stay on predetermined routes and ensure timely transport and delivery.

  • Obtain signatures to confirm and complete pickups and deliveries.

  • Communicate with dispatch as needed regarding schedule changes or issues.

  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive according to weather and road conditions.

Vehicle Care & Safety:

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any problems immediately.

  • Ensure contents are properly secured in the truck to prevent damage or injury.

  • Maintain and service vehicle as needed (refuel, check fluids, tire pressure).

  • Always ensure your vehicle is kept clean inside and out.

  • Check weather conditions and road reports before departure.

  • Make safety a priority at all times.

  • Comply with USDOT, FMCSA, and TxDOT regulations.

Documentation & Teamwork:

  • Confirm that contents of each shipment/load match the order document.

  • Maintain proper paperwork for all orders and deliveries.

  • Track and report working hours accurately.

  • Notify managers of any maintenance, delivery, or pickup issues encountered.

  • Collaborate with warehouse team to ensure efficient loading and unloading.

  • Use manual or electric pallet jack when needed.

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)

  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with clean driving record (required)

  • 10-year employment history verification (required)

  • Current DOT medical card (required)

  • 2+ years of verifiable commercial driving experience (preferred)

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple or changing priorities and meet deadlines with professionalism and problem-solving

  • Skilled in operating and parking large commercial vehicles and completing long-haul routes, including evenings, weekends, and overnight driving when required

  • Proficiency using GPS systems, map reading, and digital routing tools while remaining alert, focused, and safety-minded

  • Self-motivated with strong customer service skills and excellent attention to detail and accuracy, even in fast-paced conditions

  • Unquestionable character and works well in a team environment

After hire, you will be expected to have or obtain:

  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification

  • Civil Rights Training

  • Electric Pallet Jack Certification

  • Forklift Certification

You must have a valid driver's license; be able to pass a background check and random drug testing; be able to lift up to 55 pounds repeatedly throughout the day; and be able to understand, speak, and write basic English, including familiarity with transportation-related terminology.
