Overview

The Catholic Religious Education Coordinator serves as a key support resource to the Chaplain Corps at Beale Air Force Base. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing a comprehensive Catholic Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation program for children, youth, and adults within the base Catholic community. The Coordinator works closely with the assigned Catholic Priest/Chaplain and chapel staff to ensure all programs align with Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee Catholic Religious Education programs for all age groups

  • Manage sacramental preparation programs, RCIA, youth ministry, adult faith formation, and special religious events

  • Prepare annual Religious Education needs assessments, calendars, and budget proposals

  • Ensure programs align with AMS and Air Force Chaplain Corps guidance

Volunteer & Teacher Coordination

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support RE teachers and volunteers

  • Ensure all volunteers working with minors complete required background checks

  • Conduct teacher training sessions prior to program start and quarterly thereafter

  • Recognize volunteers during Chaplain Corps Volunteer Appreciation events

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate attendance records, rosters, and electronic databases

  • Prepare and submit reports, budgets, and required documentation on time

  • Develop and distribute publicity materials with chaplain approval

  • Coordinate facility requests, scheduling, and curriculum procurement

  • Maintain continuity files and shared digital records

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 18 years

  • High school diploma or GED required (Associate degree in education preferred)

  • Basic Catechist Certification or documented coursework in theology or religious studies

  • Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church

  • Minimum two years’ experience in religious education, parish ministry, or children’s church programs

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
