Membership Summary
A UChicago Consortium for Advanced Science & Engineering (CASE) (Senior) Scientist/Scholar Affiliated with a Unit will have the following privileges:
Access to UChicago facilities and the library
Serve as a PI or co-investigator on grant applications at the University
Charge their time to grants at the University without a subcontract
Purchase equipment via the University for use on University-administered grants
Hire and supervise staff at the University
Access to mail forwarding, VPN, and various networking and productivity resources such as Zoom and Box.
Co-supervise and co-mentor students and postdocs
Authority to approve CASE Affiliated with a Unit members will be delegated by the Provost to the Division/School in which the unit resides. The Division/School within which the academic unit is situated will be responsible for setting the criteria and approval process required for affiliated membership. The criteria and process for affiliation may differ for different Divisions and Schools and is separate from the CASE joint appointment application.
The Division/School will be responsible for providing grant administration and human resources support for the affiliated scientists/scholars. The Office of Research (OOR) will oversee the reimbursement process and/or the effort reconciliation process with the participating institution to provide expertise and ensure proper execution, if applicable.

Application Instructions
To be accepted into UChicago CASE, applicants must be approved by the University and the home institution.
Applicants must follow any internal joint appointment approval process established at the home institution for potential UChicago CASE membership prior to completing the CASE application.

.An application for UChicago CASE membership must be completed in full, and should include:
The applicant’s rationale for seeking membership
A description of the proposed research or scholarly activities to be undertaken
The University unit where collaborations currently exist or will be established
A list of existing or possible faculty collaborators (which should include the anticipated faculty host)
A current CV/biosketch
A memo of support from the applicant’s cognizant supervisor of the home institution (on institution letterhead)
