Position Summary
The Defense Case Manager plays a critical role in supporting attorneys in the management of defense cases from intake through resolution. This position is responsible for coordinating case activities, maintaining client communication, organizing legal documentation, and ensuring deadlines are met. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a high-volume caseload and support attorneys with daily case activity
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing status updates and responding to inquiries
- Coordinate the collection, review, and organization of medical records, police reports, and other case-related documents
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files within the firm's case management system
- Calendar and track deadlines, court dates, depositions, and other key milestones
- Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to prepare cases for litigation or resolution
- Draft correspondence and assist with legal documentation as needed
- Coordinate with insurance carriers, opposing counsel, and third-party vendors
- Ensure compliance with firm procedures and legal requirements
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a legal case management, legal assistant, or paralegal role (defense experience preferred)
- Familiarity with litigation processes and legal terminology
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in case management software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Experience
- Experience in insurance defense, personal injury defense, or civil litigation
- Knowledge of medical records and billing review processes
- Prior experience handling high-volume caseloads
Reporting Structure
This role typically reports to a Senior Paralegal, Case Management Supervisor, or Attorney, depending on firm structure.
