Position Summary

The Career Services and Student Success Coordinator provides day-to-day student support services, develops policies, procedures, budgets, and plans for implementing the educational support programs; provides support and assists with registrations; coordinates tutorial programs; coordinates ADA/504 compliance and support for disability students, provides career development programs by serving as the primary career development person across the three instructional divisions and works with current business and industry partners to coordinate and maintain information on career opportunities for students and the College. The Coordinator will also perform multiple career-development services to students, such as career counseling and assisting students with job search issues. The Coordinator will provide services to guide, advise, and support students through career planning, decision-making, and job search processes.

Salary: Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule C3 (Salary range: $47,377 - $99,454 Annually)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop policies and procedures for programs of academic support and service to students.
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of the Student Success Center including educational programs.
  • As requested, prepare a calendar and schedules for services in the Student Success Center each semester.
  • Develop and prepare appropriate records and reports.
  • Serve in handling "day-to-day" activities and scheduling of the Student Success Center
  • Assist in registration on base campus, assist with registration at other campuses as needed.
  • Coordinate tutorial program for students each semester.
  • Coordinate ADA/504 compliance and disability student support.
  • Maintain up-to-date calendar and schedule of study for the student Success Center.
  • Refer students requiring professional counseling to appropriate community resources.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff as needed.
  • Supervise work and keep records of Student Success and appropriate support staff and work-study students.
  • Serve asprimary liaison between the three instructional divisions, college departments, and current business and industry partners to coordinate and maintain information on various career opportunities for students and the college
  • Generate data and reports from Argos and TargetXto guide decision-making
  • Keeps abreast of career information to include average salaries, demands, level of education required, and employment projections.
  • Develop and coordinate student workshops on resume writing, interviewing skills,
  • professionalism, careers, and other related topics.
  • Provide one-on-one career coaching services and employability skills development,
  • Coordinate job shadowing opportunities for SUSCC students in conjunction with local business and industry.
  • Organize and coordinate community stakeholders for in-class speaking engagements to develop career interests among students.
  • Support students by facilitating, promoting, and coordinating contacts with instructors, employers, recruiters, transfer institutions, and other resources.
  • Provides students with opportunities to attend college or business tours.
  • Advises and counsels undecided students through career development.
  • Assists in the orientation process for new students, emphasizing career information, exploration, and selection.
  • Coordinates career fairs on all Southern Union campuses; sends invitations; manages setup; creates and distributes publications.
  • Maintains the Career Services Website.
  • Develop working relationships with area employers to assist placement of students in appropriate jobs.
  • Surveys students and employers to evaluate the effectiveness of services.
  • Works with military recruiters to refer students as needed.
  • Employee also follow up with students, after graduation or course completion, to track employment and wage data.
  • Attends workforce development conferences and accesses webinars to remain up-to-date.?
  • Works to help coordinate student apprenticeships and internship opportunities (i.e. Nursing, FAME, etc.)
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local employers, industries, and community organizations to develop job and internship opportunities for students.
  • Assist students in securing internships, cooperative education, and job placements related to their academic and career goals.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Three years of work experience in assessing, advising, and/or providing information to students; OR three years relevant experience in career services, counseling; or a combination of personnel, human resources is required.
  • Proficiency in common computer office software such as Microsoft Office is required.
  • Ability to work non-standard and extended hours as necessary is required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with the ability to drive and travel to various locations is required.
  • Experience using TargetX.

Sick Leave

Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Tuition Assistance

This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:

  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
  • 2/3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3/3 waived after 3rd year
