Job Description Summary
The Career Navigator/Coordinator supports student career readiness and workforce connection by providing guidance on local labor market trends, internship opportunities, and employment pathways. This position serves as a bridge between students, academic programs, and regional employers to help students successfully transition from education to employment. The Career Navigator/Coordinator will collaborate with local workforce development boards, employment organizations, and community partners to align career opportunities with student interests and program outcomes.
Because this position is supported by grant funding, the Career Navigator/Coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, tracking student engagement and outcomes, and contributing to required grant reporting and performance metrics.
Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to
- Provide individualized career guidance to students regarding career pathways, internships, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities related to their field of study.
- Educate students on regional labor market trends, in-demand occupations, and emerging industry opportunities.
- Assist students with career exploration, job search strategies, resume development, interview preparation, and professional networking.
- Build and maintain partnerships with local employers, workforce development boards, chambers of commerce, and employment agencies.
- Coordinate internship, job shadowing, and experiential learning opportunities for students.
- Represent the college at workforce development meetings and collaborate with community partners to expand employment pathways for students.
- Work with WVNCC staff to help organize career-related workshops, information sessions, and employer engagement events such as career fairs and employer panels.
- Maintain accurate documentation of student interactions, career outcomes, internships, and employment placements using designated tracking systems.
- Monitor and report program activities, outcomes, and metrics as required by the grant.
- Collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, and student support staff to align career development resources with academic programs.
- Support special initiatives and projects related to student career readiness.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Education, Communications, Human Resources, Workforce Development, or a related field.
- Experience working with students, career services, workforce programs, or employment placement initiatives preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse student populations and community partners.
- Ability to build partnerships with employers and workforce organizations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to track student progress, maintain records, and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in standard office software and data tracking systems.
- Experience in higher education, career services, or workforce development programs.
- Knowledge of regional labor market data and workforce trends.
- Experience with grant-funded programs and performance reporting.
