Position Overview

Under general supervision of the Career Development Coordinator, is responsible for facilitating and coordinating career development, employment, vocational, educational, and community-based programming for residents. The position fosters relationships with communtiy partners and assists residents in developing and obtaining the skills, credentials, resources, and support necessary for transition to the community.

Summary of Job Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Career Development and Employment

  • Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining internal job training programs.

  • Facilitates Employment Readiness classes.

  • Facilitates Employment orientation to residents.

  • Assist in the facilitation of job training and vocational activities.

  • Assist with vocational assessments to determine appropriate employment and training opportunities.

  • Maintains a list of employment sites and contacts as provided by Supervisor.

  • Assist residents with developing employment and career goals.

  • Refer residents to appropriate employment, career development, workforce, and vocational resources.

Educational and GED Services

  • Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate GED and TABE testing activities for eligible residents in accordance with applicable testing requirements, procedures, and provider guidelines.
  • Maintain required documentation related to GED and TABE testing, educational assessments, testing results, vouchers, and resident educational progress.
  • Assist with maintaining educational testing materials, equipment, and supplies and report technology or equipment concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Ensure GED and TABE testing activities are appropriately documented in the resident database and other required systems.

Community Service

  • Inform residents about the rules and expectations for community service outside of the facility.
  • Maintain list of community service sites and contacts as provided by supervisor.
  • Facilitates Community Service orientation to residents.
  • Communicates with Operations Staff as it relates to community service and employment to assure comprehensive quality care for the residents.

Volunteer Services

  • Assist with ensuring all Volunteers have completed the appropriate application and pre-screening process in coordination with Human Resources and the Career Development Coordinator.
  • Facilitates Volunteer orientation, to include PREA.
  • Assist with maintaining the active Volunteer database.

Community Support

  • Refer residents to community resources and transition programs for employment, vocational, educational, and workforce development services.
  • Assist Clinicians/Primary Therapists in treatment and aftercare planning related to employment, education, vocational development, and community reintegration
  • Assist residents in identifying community resources that support continued education, employment, vocational training, and career development.

Operations

  • Handle disciplining of residents, enforce procedures for handling of residents and ensure proper documentation is completed.
  • Assist in monitoring residents, ordering supplies, preparing incident reports, and other operational duties as needed.
  • Assist with the writing of and follow through on any investigations involving residents in the work release or community service programs.
  • Assist with transportation, as needed.

Administrative

  • Participate in staff and team meetings.
  • Participate in public relations activities within the community.
  • Participate in collection, preparation, and submission of monthly statistics for annual report.
  • Conduct assessments and maintain relevant documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records related to career development, employment, vocational programming, education, and GED testing.
  • Document resident contacts, services provided, referrals, and progress related to career development, employment, education, vocational programming, identification documents, and community resources in the resident database, and other required systems.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case management notes and documentation regarding services provided to residents.
  • Complete required documentation and follow-up to ensure identified resident needs and referrals are appropriately addressed.
  • Prepare reports and statistical information as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information and comply with applicable agency policies, testing requirements, and regulatory standards.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or GED with four (4) years of experience in employment, vocational training, career development, education, or a related field and a current Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) required.
  • Associates Degree in Behavioral Science, Human Resources, Education, Workforce Development, or a related field with two (2) years of experience in employment, vocational training, career development, education, or related field preferred, and ability to submit Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) application within ninety (90) days of appointment to position and obtain within six (6) months of appointment to position.
  • Ability to read and prepare routine reports and statistical information (i.e., punctuation, grammar, spelling).
  • Working knowledge of interpersonal communication skills requiring courtesy and tact necessary to communicate effectively with staff, clients, social service, and criminal justice agencies, as well as the general public.
  • Knowledge of and ability to conduct vocational and/or career-related assessments.
  • Knowledge of employment, workforce development, vocational training, and career development principles.
  • Ability to assist with educational assessments and standardized testing procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation related to educational, vocational, employment, and community service activities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement problem-solving principles.
  • Familiarity with standard software packages (i.e., SMART boards, Microsoft Word, Excel) and ability to use a computer for efficient completion of routine tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to learn and comply with applicable GED testing procedures, security requirements, and testing-platform protocols.
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver's License required.

Working Conditions

  • Potential exists of exposure to disease/illness.
  • This is a minimum security facility, therefore all outside access doors are locked at all times.
