Job Summary
To cultivate programs and services for the high school learner, so that the individual can successfully enter and advance in a career pathway.
Job Duties
A. High School Outreach Responsibilities
a. Support outreach efforts involving high school learners to raise career awareness of opportunities and assist in enrollment of high school learners at the college level.
b. Support students' efforts for career pathways.
c. Coordinate events designed to promote awareness of career pathways.
d. Work with high school and college personnel to prepare information related to career pathways for distribution to students and parents.
e. Follow a communication plan to ensure consistent communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, etc.
f. Promote collaboration and relationship-building between college and high school technical faculty and teachers through coordinated class and lab visits.
g. Coordinate Career Launch summer camps and academies
h. Organize college campus tours.
a. Maintain contact with select advisees using a proactive advising model.
b. Assist with academic and career advising for high school learners.
c. Maintain accurate and adequate student records to assist in the annual mandatory reporting required by the grant.
d. Provide information to college personnel regarding course needs for high school students.
e. Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures related to high schools, community colleges, universities, military pathways, and community workforce development resources to provide timely information and guidance to students, assisting them in making informed decisions.
f. Maintain compliance with NACADA core values and competencies for academic advising.
a. Become familiar with the roles of collaborators in the high school through the NC Career Coach Advisory Board partnership (including the high school career development coordinator, counselor, principal, and community college personnel).
b. Provide supportive interventions to help students succeed in high school and college courses
c. Provide academic success strategies to facilitate successful transition into the college environment.
c. Assist in communicating policy and procedure information to students and parents.
d. Conduct workshops and classroom visits with enrolled students at the high school and enhanced partnership sites to inform and instruct students concerning Pathways requirements.
e. Provide success and support interventions to students enrolled in summer camps
f. Recommend procedures for maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines (e.g., ADA, IDEA, FERPA, etc.).
B. Workforce Engagement Responsibilities
a. Develop professional relationships with business and industry leaders to remain knowledgeable about careers available for graduates entering the workforce.
b. Coordinate with local business leaders to offer high school learners opportunities to learn about career availability in the service area and support the LevelUp Rockingham initiative funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation.
c. Coordinate tours with local industries to expose students to various career pathways.
Additional Duties:
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in education, communication, business, career development/counselor or related field from a regionally accredited institution and two years of work experience in a high school, community college or educational environment as a career/academic advisor, academic/success coach or counselor.
PREFERRED:
Knowledge in all aspects of the student experience to include: coaching, mentoring, academic/career advising, student/career services and progression.

North Carolina Retirement System - State Retirement Plan
Full-time employees participate in the North Carolina Teachers and State Employees Retirement System. State retirement is deducted at the rate of six percent; the state contribution varies dependent on market conditions. Contributions are tax sheltered for federal and state income tax purposes. Short-term and Long-term Disability benefits are available to eligible employees.

The NC 401(k) Plan and the NC 457 Plan are defined contribution retirement plans offered as optional employment benefits to eligible employees.
