What youll do on a typical day
As the Career and College Promise Advisor, you will work in collaboration with high school counselors, career development coordinators, principals, and the Director of High School Partnerships to ensure student access and success for Career and College Promise students. This position supports our high school partnerships and spends the majority of their time in the high schools. The duties of the Career and College Promise Advisor include, but are not limited to:
Essential Job Functions:
Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with high school counselors, administrators, faculty, staff, and community partners to promote student success and increase program engagement.
Conduct information sessions and facilitate registration workshops for prospective and current CCP students to support enrollment and informed course selection.
Guide prospective and current students through admissions, enrollment, and registration processes, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and filed by the start of each semester.
Participate in high school events throughout the academic year, including Parent Nights, Curriculum Nights, and Open Houses, to promote CCP programs and support student enrollment.
Provide personalized academic advising and registration support, maintaining an updated academic plan for each CCP student throughout the academic year.
Regularly assess CCP students academic performance, intervening when necessary, and connect at-risk students to campus resources within one week of identifying academic difficulties.
Guide students in developing and implementing success strategies, including time management and study skills, to overcome academic challenges.
Verify graduation eligibility for all CCP students each semester, ensuring compliance with academic requirements and timely submission to the registrar.
Stay updated with changes in state and local policies from the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), implementing updates within one month of policy revisions.
Ensure meticulous record-keeping for enrollment, tracking, and reporting purposes, with bi-annual audits to maintain data integrity.
Provide ongoing support for students to access and effectively utilize college technology accounts such as email and Canvas.
Actively participate in all team meetings and attend at least two professional development activities per semester to enhance job performance and stay informed of best practices.
Foster an inclusive academic environment by demonstrating sensitivity and respect in all interactions with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Engage actively in college events and meetings to champion the Colleges mission and values, contributing to at least two college-wide initiatives per academic year.
Execute additional tasks as assigned to support the mission and strategic initiatives of the College, reporting outcomes to the supervisor bi-annually.
Your attributes
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
Two or more years of advising, mentoring, career guidance, outreach or recruitment experience in a K - 12 or higher education
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
Experience with Career and College Promise
Proficiency in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software or relevant experience utilizing CRM systems.
Fluent Spanish speaking and writing skills

Other requirements include ease of mobility in supervising students in classroom/lab settings, carrying supplies and other instructional materials, ability to move, climb, or crawl under equipment, use of keyboard, effective use of all forms of communication (oral, written, visual, auditory), and the ability to perform general teaching and office duties and travel to other campus locations.
