Description

Summary:

  • Monday-Friday 9a-5p (including 30 minutes unpaid lunch break)
  • Duration: 17-week assignment

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain echocardiogram equipment
  • Inspect echocardiogram machine electrodes to ensure cleanliness and proper working order; report malfunctions immediately
  • Ensure machine and cart contain adequate supplies; report low par levels
  • Respond to STATS within 15 minutes
  • Obtain echocardiograms as ordered and schedule patients in appropriate order
  • Match patient I.D. to request and explain procedures to patients
  • Position patients and select appropriate transducers
  • Use scanner over specified body area, adjusting equipment to focus
  • Make video copy images as requested and document tests
  • Reschedule testing if necessary due to difficulties
  • Develop prints using automatic printer processing equipment
  • Prepare data and keep finished tape on machine until complete study is read by cardiologist
  • Review test results with physicians and log all echocardiograms performed
  • Assist in procedures like pericardiocentesis, maintaining sterile technique
  • Maintain hospital standards and report any violations immediately
  • Perform various clerical tasks and assist in cross-training of staff
  • Maintain department records and respond to phone calls appropriately
  • Develop and maintain a high level of customer service
  • Identify and resolve equipment problems; recognize patient problems and call for clinical assistance if needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Completion of an Echocardiogram Training Program
  • Echocardiography CCI or ARMS Echo Certification
  • Required to obtain ICAEL recognized certification
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Technician I
  • Basic clerical skills such as filing and light typing at 25 wpm
  • Human relations skills for dealing with patients and families
  • Good oral communication skills to explain procedures and discuss results
  • Organizational skills to ensure proper stocking of equipment and supplies

Preferred Skills:

  • Displays courtesy, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with staff, patients, and visitors
  • Offers assistance in attaining goals or completing tasks when possible
