The position is 8 hours per day, 260 days per year.
Job Description
SUPPORT SERVICE PERSONNEL: CUSTODIAN
Days: 260 a year
Reports to: APPROPRIATE ADMINISTRATOR
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
Civil Service eligibility
Physical ability to handle materials weighing up to 80 lbs.
Ability to work without supervision
Honesty
Ability to take directions
Cooperate and get along with others
Work as a member of a team
Desirable:
Possess good public relation skills
Possess knowledge of means, methods and materials used in performance of custodial work
GENERAL DUTIES:
The responsibilities of a Custodian include, but are not limited to, the following:
Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat, safe and clean at all times
Shovels, plows and salts walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate
Dusts and cleans on a daily schedule
Sweeps and/or vacuums assigned area daily
Cleans corridors and steps after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it
Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily
Keeps wastebaskets empty and clean
Lowers the United States Flag each school day
Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, weed removal, tree trimming and shrubs to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition
Performs minor building repairs
Reports immediately to the Building Administrator any damage to school property
Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Building Administrator
Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Building Administrator
14 Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
Assumes the responsibility for the closing of the building each school day and determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off
Cleans chalkboards at least once a week
Climbs ladder to make repairs, changes lights, cleans wall and windows
Cleans door glass daily
Keeps custodian closets clean and orderly at all times
Performs other duties as assigned
Testing Information
SUBSEQUENT TO THE FILING OF THE APPLICATION, THE CANDIDATES WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE FORMAT, LOCATION, DATE, AND TIME OF THE EXAMINATION.
A written examination will be administered on the following subjects: cleaning materials and procedures; safety; arithmetic; mechanical comprehension; and other related areas. A score of 70% will be the minimum passing score.
REPEATING AN EXAM
Per OAC Rule 123: 1-9-01, an applicant who has competed in a civil service examination cannot repeat that examination or take an examination for the same classification within FOUR MONTHS from the date of original examination, unless an alternative form of examination is given, or unless other standards are specified in the examination announcement.
RATING
Your name will be placed on a list of eligible candidates upon receiving a passing score. Once the list has been established, your name will remain on the list for a period of one (1) year.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO VETERANS
As provided in ORC 124.23C, any person who has completed service in the uniformed services, who have been honorably discharged from the uniformed services or transferred to the reserve with evidence of satisfactory service, and who is an Ohio resident and any member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States, including the Ohio National Guard, who has completed more than 180 days of active duty service pursuant to an executive order of the President of the United States or an act of Congress of the United States may file with the director a certificate of service or honorable discharge (DD-214 - Long version), and upon this filing, the person shall receive an additional credit of twenty percent (20%) of the person's total grade given in the examination in which the person receives a passing grade.
A member in good standing of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States, including the Ohio National Guard, who successfully completes the member's initial entry-level training shall receive a credit of fifteen percent (15%) of the person's total grade given in the examination in which the person receives a passing grade.

Pursuant to Civil Service Rules applicants are hereby advised that the position of employment being examined for is subject to a drug test. Accordingly, eligibility is not considered final until drug testing has been successfully completed with a negative result.
