POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cancer Support Program Coordinator is responsible for developing educational and psychosocial programs that support wellness and comprehensive care for individuals dealing with cancer, in collaboration with cancer center staff. The Coordinator serves as the conduit for programs offered at the cancer center and works in partnership with local cancer agencies such as the American Cancer Society. The role includes direct patient outreach, coordination and scheduling of services, entering and managing referrals, and documenting interactions within the electronic health record (EHR), as well as connecting patients and families to a wide range of supportive resources to enhance care throughout the cancer journey. They support patient care through direct patient contact, educating staff about available programs and resources, community networking with other service providers, and by acting as the liaison for facilitators and instructors of cancer support groups and classes. The Coordinator also contributes to social media content creation and program promotion efforts to increase awareness and engagement. Additionally, they work directly with patients in the Wig Boutique, providing support for those experiencing hair loss and offering services that address self-image and confidence during treatment. The Coordinator oversees volunteer services within the Cancer Center and serves as the on-site coordinator for the PAWS animal-assisted activities program. In addition, the role provides direction for Healing Art initiatives, including Faces of Hope and other community-based healing arts projects. Oversight is also provided to library volunteers, including development, acquisitions, and daily operations.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in field that demonstrates good communication skills)
Desired:
Previous experience in program development, grant writing, support group facilitation, or other
related skills
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to meet deadlines both financial and time related. Must show sensitivity for the patient and family and maintain strict confidentiality. Must be able to work independently. Self-motivated, flexible and able to work well with multidisciplinary teams. Proficient at basic computer programs such as Word, Outlook, Excel. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
