    Description

    The Campus Safety Supervisor provides leadership for the daily operations of Interlochen's Campus Safety Department, directing and supporting a team of Campus Safety Officers responsible for protecting the safety and security of our students, employees, guests, and 1,200-acre campus. This position oversees patrol operations, emergency response, investigations, concert and special event safety, traffic and parking management, guest transportation, emergency preparedness, and other critical public safety functions. The Campus Safety Supervisor ensures the department operates with professionalism, accountability, and a strong commitment to service while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for the Interlochen community.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Models the Interlochen's core values and champions the mission and vision of the organization.
    • Assist with the recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, and evaluation of a diverse staff in a department that operates around the clock, 365 days a year.
    • Provides effective liaison between employees and senior leadership to promote goodwill, cooperation, and open communications within the department.
    • Ensure employees meet customer service expectations and follow established operating procedures, reporting guidelines, and documentation.
    • Supervise a team of Campus Safety staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
    • Evaluate the work performance of assigned staff and initiate corrective and disciplinary actions in conjunction with department leadership and ICA Human Resources.
    • Train, mentor, and support Campus Safety staff in performing daily duties, emergency response protocols, and other responsibilities.
    • Supervise department activities related to facility security, emergency response, parking and traffic control, and crime and fire prevention.
    • Perform duties associated with fingerprinting individuals, key management and control, fulfilling work orders, issuance of identification badges, managing found property, fire extinguisher inspections, and various safety drills.
    • Ensures compliance with established visitor management protocols.
    • Review, track, and distribute incident reports to department leadership for resolutions requiring corrective action, student discipline, employee discipline, etc.
    • Monitors ongoing safety and security issues on campus, responds to and coordinates requests for assistance, and communicates and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders and departments.
    • Exercise judgment in answering daily procedural Campus Safety-related questions.
    • Ensures the appropriate use of materials, equipment, and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Respects the culture, diversity, and rights of all students, their families, and the community.
    • Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Experience:
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar role, such as public safety or another governmental organization, including experience coordinating safety work with external agencies such as law enforcement, community partners, and emergency responders.
    • An associate's degree in public safety, safety and environmental health, or criminal justice is preferred.. Experience may substitute for education.
    • Experience in a school or campus setting preferred.
    • AED/CPR/First Aid certification.
    • Familiarity with Mac laptops, Google Suite, MS Office Suite, and InformaCast.
    • Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.
    • Valid drivers license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICAs insurance carrier for positions requiring driving.
    • Effective written, verbal, interpersonal, and public relations communication skills.
    • Ability to quickly and objectively assess situations, recognize actual or potential dangers, determine when action is necessary, and select an appropriate course of action.
    • Ability to read, comprehend, retain, and apply written factual information and follow and execute specific verbal and written instructions.
    • Strong observation skills with the ability to notice and remember details.
    • Willingness and ability to confront a variety of problems and situations and to respond to, evaluate, and resolve emergency situations on campus.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment in day-to-day procedural activities, including determining access to campus areas and appropriately ensuring compliance with campus policies and procedures.
    • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.

    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
