Campus Safety Responder

Under general supervision, the Campus Safety Responder guards and protects University property with a high intrinsic or monetary value, or a high hazard potential such as open art displays or highly flammable materials; maintains order among crowds at public events, but do not carry firearms; control entry to restricted areas; check the identity of persons seeking entry; inspect areas for security, fire, and accident hazards, and take action as required; watch for rule infractions and irregularities in University facilities; may answer questions and direct visitors; maintain public relations with all persons visiting assigned area; and patrol parking lots to prevent crime. Incumbents assigned to UCR Police Department perform some or all the following duties: routine police reports, radio dispatching, emergency first aid, traffic control, building and grounds security, prisoner processing, record bureau assistance, safety escorts, safety protection of mental health response team, response to campus alarms, and assistance to sworn officers as required. Incumbents shall not be equipped with firearms. Campus Safety Responders are full-time, non-sworn (unarmed) employees of the UCR Police Department within the Health, Well-Being & Safety (HWS) organization, who support a tiered safety response by providing public safety services on campus and other nearby sites owned and/or controlled by the University. The full salary range for the Campus Safety Responder is $25.40 - $33.53 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $29.77 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements. \n \nProvide premise security, engage in preventive patrols, and respond to calls-for-service in vehicles, on bicycles, and/or on foot; and perform other emergency safety services.Enforce University policy equitably, involving a high degree of public contact, responsibility, and community service (e.g., de-escalation, public information, safety escorts, crime prevention, lockout assistance, public presentations).Assist campus police by providing security escorts to support the safety of UCR mental health team members responding to community members who may be in crisis, uncooperative, combative, and/or a danger to themselves/others. In accordance with policy and after receiving appropriate training, this position may be required to exercise reasonable use of force to support the safety of the subject, staff and maintain a safe campus environment.Observe and report criminal activity to the police, and writes detailed narrative reports pursuant to department protocol, including information and misdemeanor crime reports.Other duties as assigned.\n \nDemonstrated ability to serve and work well with diverse community members, peers and superiors.Strong ability to maintain a professional and impartial stance in all situations (especially emergencies).Ability to handle a high degree of public contact responsibility.Proven ability to accept instructions and direction from superiors in a positive manner.Skill to accurately complete various reports and forms.
