Job Summary

The Campus Safety Officer has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, providing service, information and aid to all citizens as circumstances require, assisting and supporting victims of crime when directed by supervisor, deterring crime through constant uniformed presence, taking non-criminal reports and reporting safety issues on campus. This position is also responsible for the safety and welfare of students, faculty, staff and visitors and all property under the control and jurisdiction of Lamar State College Port Arthur. The Campus Safety Officer exercises independent judgement and discretion within the limits prescribed by the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents and Lamar State College Port Arthur policies and procedures. This position serves as a Campus Safety Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). This is a part-time position that reports to LSCPA's Campus Safety Department.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform security and safety duties on the property of LSCPA
  • Preserve safety and security by interceding, to prevent or deter crime
  • Investigate non-criminal incidents to detect safety issues and lost property
  • Prepare various written reports narrating incidents, supplemental information, and non-criminal activities
  • Give credible and accurate testimony in the criminal courts of this state and the United States - if required
  • Prepare reports
  • Provide assistance and support to the victims of crime, and to all student, faculty, staff and visitors
  • Comply with campus policies and procedures
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a safety and security position, with similar duties
  • Proficient in use of equipment utilized in the performance of assigned duties (i.e., handcuffs, oleoresin capsicum spray (OC), public safety vehicles, communication equipment, computers, investigative and surveillance equipment)
  • Enrolled at one of the Lamar campuses for continuing education

Supplemental Information

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to exert substantial physical effort. Visual and auditory acuity are required to ensure safety of faculty, staff, students and visitors.

Work Hours:

19.50 hours per week.
