This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt position that reports to the Chief of Police and is located at the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins immediately. JOB DESCRIPTION John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking a dedicated Campus Police Officer to join our Campus Police Department. The Campus Police Officer ensures the safety of the JWCC community by patrolling campus grounds and buildings, monitoring activity, and responding to emergency and non-emergency situations. This role involves crime prevention, detection, and investigation, including securing crime scenes, collecting evidence, and detaining or arresting offenders. The officer also provides visible police presence at campus events, enforces traffic and parking regulations, and supports community members with safety services such as vehicle assistance and escorts.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Patrol campus buildings and grounds by foot and vehicle.Monitor campus activity in person and through surveillance systems.Respond to emergencies and administer First Aid, CPR, or AED until EMS arrives.Investigate criminal activity and suspicious circumstances; secure crime scenes and collect evidence.Enforce traffic, parking, and campus policies.Detain or arrest offenders as appropriate and coordinate with local law enforcement.Provide safety escorts, vehicle assistance, and other non-emergency support.Maintain knowledge of and enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as JWCC policies and procedures.Participate in ongoing training and professional development.QUALIFICATIONS Education:High School Diploma or GED required.Illinois Sworn Law Enforcement Officer Certification or equivalent required.Experience:3–5 years of law enforcement experience preferred.Valid Driver's License and Illinois FOID Card required.Skills and Competencies:Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.Knowledge of applicable laws, emergency operations, and safety procedures.Skills and Competencies Continued:Proficiency in using police and safety equipment, defensive tools, and firearmsHigh level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the phone.Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations and on the phone.Ability to see and read with or without vision aids: computer screen, equipment used in the work environment, instructional materials, training materials, directions, rules, policies, calendars, agendas, manuals, and other printed matters.Must be able to appropriately control and manipulate objects, tools, materials, and equipment used on the job, including a phone and a computer.Work Schedule:Full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday-Thursday (2:00pm – 10:00pm) and Friday (10:00am – 2:00pm). May be required to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.Working Conditions:Ability to work a combination of indoor and outdoor settings, including the possibility of extreme weather conditions.Mobility sufficient to move about, stand, and/or sit for extended periods of time, and access all locations of the campus.
