    Job Description:

    Under the general supervision of the Savannah Technical College Police Department, the Campus Police Officeris responsible forproviding a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and college property. The officer patrols assigned campus areas, monitors buildings and grounds, responds to calls for service, andassistswith emergency and security-related incidents across Savannah Technical College campuses.

    The Campus Police Officer enforces applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as college policies and procedures. Duties include managing traffic flow, enforcing parking regulations, conducting building checks, investigating traffic incidents, thefts, vandalism, disturbances, suspicious activity, and other campus-related incidents. The officer preparesaccuratereports,assistsduring emergencies, and may make arrests when necessary.

    This position requires professionalism, sound judgment,strong communicationskills, and the ability to work effectively with students, employees, visitors, and outside public safety agencies. Officers maybe requiredtowork days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and travel between Savannah Technical College campuses as needed.

    THIS POSITION IS BASED AT THE LIBERTY CAMPUS (100 TECHNOLOGY DRIVE, HINESVILLE) BUT IS SUBJECT TO RE-ASSIGNMENT BASED ON NEED.

    Technical Competencies

    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations 

    • Ability to respond to crisis situationsin accordance withestablished guidelines 

    • Ability to prepare clear, complete, andaccuratereports 

    • Ability to use good judgment in emergency and non-emergency situations 

    • Ability to communicate professionally with students, staff, faculty, visitors, and law enforcement partners 

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

    • Ability to travel between Savannah Technical College campus locations 

    • Ability to work assigned shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays 

    • Ability to conduct routine building and campus security checks using an accountability system

    MinimumQualifications:

    • A high school diploma or equivalent 

    • Current Georgia P.O.S.T. certification as a peace officer

    • Valid driver’s license 

    • Ability tomaintainrequired training and firearms qualifications 

    • Ability to work assigned shifts, weekends,special events, and emergencycall-outsas needed 

    • Two (2) years of prior law enforcement experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previouslaw enforcement experience in a college, school, or campus setting 

    • Training or experience in emergency management, homeland security, or campus safety 

    • Associate’s or bachelor’sdegree in criminal justice, public safety, justice studies, or a closely related field 

    • Experience with report writing, community policing, and working in an educational environment

    Physical Demands:

    This position requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, crouching, climbing, andlifting upto 50 pounds. Work is performed both inside campus buildings and outdoors, including during cold, hot, or inclement weather conditions.

    The position may involve exposure to emergency situations, combative individuals, hazardous conditions, and potentially life-threatening incidents. The position is subject to pre-employment screening, random drug testing, psychological evaluation, and physical examination as required by college and state guidelines.

    Salary/Benefits:

    Salary iscommensuratewith education and work experience.Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
