The Position

The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) and The National Women's Law Center Action Fund (NWLCAF) seeks a campaigner who is passionate about culture shift and who is an effective communicator that will support issue campaigns and other initiatives that advance progress for women and girls at school, at work, at home, and in their communities.

The Campaigns Associate, centered on the Campaigns & Communications team, will work with a team of people to support the implementation of compelling, creative, and effective issue advocacy campaigns using both digital and on-the-ground tools and strategies across issue areas of NWLC.

This is a full-time exempt position of 37.5 hours per week.

The Organization

The National Women's Law Center fights for gender justice - in the courts, in public policy, and in our society - working across the issues that are central to the lives of women and girls.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Campaigns team in executing multi-channel campaigns strategies that forward NWLC's and NWLCAF's legislative, policy, and narrative change goals;
  • In collaboration with the content and creative subteam, develops and writes action alert emails, advocacy actions, social media content, blog posts, toolkits, and other related materials;
  • Collaborates with colleagues across the program teams to advance key policy goals, in partnership with the Campaigns team;
  • Supports the development of mobilization strategies in rapid response moments to elevate campaign messaging and supports securing key narrative and policy wins;
  • Coordinates a shared campaigns and project tracker in partnership with Campaigns team leadership and relevant program and internal cross-team partners to include but not limited to, reminders and weekly wrap ups on campaigns and project components;
  • Partners with the full communications, program, research, development teams to support occasional on-the-ground activations and events in collaboration with other partner organizations;
  • As needed and in collaboration with Campaigns staff, supports meetings, conference calls, speaking opportunities, and other NWLC-hosted events;
  • Supports lead campaigns staff in the management of relationships with communications, design, advocacy, and other consultants and other vendors;
  • Occasionally, collaborates with relevant NWLC teams to facilitate story collection and related products from grantees, partner organizations, and individuals most directly affected by our work;
  • Supports leads campaigns staff in external efforts among team members including regularly communicating status updates to partners within the organization and where relevant partners outside the organization; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The candidate must possess:

  • Demonstrated ability to grasp key policy messages and effectively communicate them to a variety of audiences, including across digital channels;
  • Ability to tie pop culture moments with policy priorities to create relatable public narratives;
  • A sense of humor and desire for both a collegial team environment and the ability to work independently;
  • Experience in effectively maintaining relationships with coalition partners and other stakeholders;
  • Demonstrate commitment to working on gender and racial equity and centering communities of color and other historically marginalized communities in their approach to work and executing key responsibilities;
  • Strong writing skills and experience writing across platforms and for diverse audiences; and
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours on occasion.

Additional preferred skills and knowledge:

  • Solid interpersonal skills, and experience working with diverse groups with diverse skill sets;
  • Proven effectiveness working on a fast-paced, collaborative team; and
  • Works effectively in moments of rapid response.

Key Relations

Campaigns Associate reports to the Director of Campaigns.

Compensation & Benefits

A salary within the range of $67,246-77,037 will be provided to the successful candidate consistent with the National Women's Law Center's compensation framework. The successful candidate's salary within this range will be determined by the number of years of relevant experience they bring to the role.

The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package, and four weeks of annual vacation.

NWLC is a non-profit organization whose headquarters and staff are based in Washington, D.C. at our new office at 1350 Eye Street N.W. This role is based in D.C. and will be eligible for some telework while also being expected to work in person on a regular basis. The successful candidate will need to live in or relocate to the DMV (broadly defined as DC, Maryland, or Virginia).

The first 90 days of employment will be considered a probationary period.

Classification

NWLC recognizes a staff bargaining unit, NWLC United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in NWLC's bargaining unit. Specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.
