Cake Decorator
Up to $28/hr with experience
Uncle Giuseppe’s gourmet bakery is actively seeking an experienced and creative Cake Decorator to join our team! This team member will perform all duties related to cake, tart, pastry, and special-order decoration. Our Cake Decorator will create appealing designs on specialty bakery goods while providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to our customers.
Responsibilities
- Creatively decorate all cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order items.
- Assist with production of all required bakery products, including parfaits, bars, and cupcakes.
- Produce in-house products to daily par levels, as specified on production sheets.
- Complete production and spoilage records, adjusting production sheets to maintain sufficient product.
- Prepare, package, weigh, and price bakery products for sale.
- Monitor product quality for freshness and ensure proper product rotation.
- Provide excellent customer service and address customer needs in a timely and effective manner.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, keeping equipment in accordance with cleanliness and safety standards.
- Perform other duties and functions as assigned.
Job Skills
- Thorough knowledge of bakery products and cake decorating techniques.
- Must be familiar with and able to work with Swiss buttercream, American buttercream, fondant, ganache, cream cheese icing, whipped cream, German icing, and all other types of creams and icings.
- Strong cake decorating skills, including the ability to make flowers and decorative borders and use elegant piping techniques.
- Ability to follow directions, established procedures, and production requirements.
- Basic math skills for recipe conversions and modifications.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with fellow team members, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Passion for food and the mission of Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
Experience/Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Professional training or extensive hands-on training as a Cake Decorator.
- Two or more years of cake decorating experience, including experience in a retail bakery environment.
- Must be able to speak, read, and understand English.
- Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for the art of cake decorating.
