Overview
We are seeking a
CAD Design & 3D Printing Assistant to support product development, prototyping, and additive manufacturing operations. This role combines CAD design, 3D modeling, and hands-on 3D printing responsibilities, making it ideal for candidates who enjoy both technical design work and working directly with manufacturing equipment.
The successful candidate will create and modify 3D models, prepare files for production, operate 3D printing equipment, and collaborate with design and product development teams to bring new concepts to life.
Responsibilities
CAD Design & Modeling
- Create and modify 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software, with SolidWorks preferred
- Translate sketches, concepts, and engineering inputs into detailed 3D models
- Prepare and optimize files for additive manufacturing, including print orientation and support generation
- Maintain organized digital files and version control for design revisions
3D Printing Operations
- Set up, operate, and monitor 3D printers, including FDM, SLA, SLS, or similar technologies
- Prepare print jobs using slicing software such as Cura, Orca Slicer, or Bambu Studio
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting
- Manage print queues and ensure timely completion of production requests
Post-Processing & Quality Control
- Perform post-processing activities including support removal, sanding, curing, and finishing
- Inspect printed components for quality, dimensional accuracy, and adherence to specifications
- Document inspection results and support continuous improvement initiatives
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with Product Development and Design teams throughout the development cycle
- Incorporate feedback and assist with design revisions and prototype iterations
- Support material selection and evaluation of new additive manufacturing processes and technologies
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in CAD, Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and additive manufacturing workflows
- Experience using slicing software for print preparation
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with FDM, SLA, SLS, or other additive manufacturing systems
- Experience in product development, prototyping, or engineering environments
- Understanding of mechanical design principles
- Experience with post-processing techniques and materials
- Mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting experience
- Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies
Work Environment
- Combination of office-based design work and hands-on lab/shop activities
- Regular use of CAD software, 3D printers, and finishing equipment
- May involve light physical activity, including climbing ladders and handling equipment and materials
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, may be required when working with certain materials and processes
