Cable Technicians

Position Overview: The Cable Technician is responsible for installing, routing, terminating, labeling, testing, and maintaining low-voltage cabling associated with RTL installations within a large-scale distribution center. The technician will work alongside installation teams to support the deployment of automated equipment and technology while ensuring all cabling is installed safely, neatly, and in accordance with project specifications.

Monday - Friday: 40-45 hours a week
Pay rate: $25.00+ (depending on experience)

Position Overview:

The Cable Technician is responsible for installing, routing, terminating, labeling, testing, and maintaining low-voltage cabling associated with RTL installations within a large-scale distribution center. The technician will work alongside installation teams to support the deployment of automated equipment and technology while ensuring all cabling is installed safely, neatly, and in accordance with project specifications.

This role requires strong attention to detail, familiarity with cable installation practices, and the ability to work effectively in an active distribution center environment. Technicians may work in elevated areas, around operating equipment, and in cold or temperature-controlled areas.

Responsibilities:

• Install, route, secure, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cables associated with RTL installations.
• Install cable pathways, supports, J-hooks, cable tray, conduit, and other approved cable-management systems as required.
• Pull and route data, communication, control, and other low-voltage cabling according to project drawings and specifications.
• Maintain proper cable separation, bend radius, support spacing, and routing standards.
• Terminate cables using appropriate connectors, patch panels, blocks, or equipment interfaces.
• Test installed cabling for continuity, connectivity, and proper performance using appropriate test equipment.
• Identify and troubleshoot cable-related issues, including damaged cables, improper terminations, connectivity problems, and routing concerns.
• Read and interpret drawings, cable schedules, installation plans, and labeling requirements.
• Accurately label cables, equipment, and connection points to support future maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Work closely with RTL installation technicians, electricians, controls personnel, engineers, and project supervisors.
• Assist with equipment connections and cable dressing associated with RTL systems.
• Maintain clean, organized, and professional cable installations.
• Remove and properly dispose of cable scraps, packaging, and installation debris.
• Follow project-specific installation standards, site procedures, and quality requirements.
• Work safely around conveyors, automation equipment, forklifts, powered industrial equipment, ladders, lifts, and other distribution-center operations.
• Use required PPE and follow all site-specific safety procedures.
• Communicate project progress, installation issues, material needs, and safety concerns to the supervisor.
• Document completed work and identify incomplete or defective installations.
• Perform other installation and technician duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Previous experience installing low-voltage, structured cabling, telecommunications, or network cabling.
• Ability to safely use hand tools and cable-installation tools.
• Ability to read basic construction drawings, cable plans, and installation documentation.
• Ability to properly route, support, dress, label, and terminate cables.
• Basic understanding of network and low-voltage cabling practices.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic cable and connectivity issues.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to installation quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a larger installation team.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and site-specific work rules.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work in an active distribution-center environment.
• Ability to work at heights using ladders, lifts, or other approved access equipment when required.
• Experience with RTL installations or automated material-handling systems.
• Experience working in large-scale distribution centers.
• Experience with structured cabling, CAT5e/CAT6/CAT6A, fiber optic, control, or communication cabling.
• Experience with cable testing and certification equipment.
• Experience installing cable tray, J-hooks, conduit, and other cable-management systems.
