We are seeking experienced, dependable, and safety-focused individuals to support the construction and installation of underground fiber-optic telecommunications infrastructure.
In this hands-on position, you'll install fiber through underground conduit systems using pneumatic, mechanical, and conventional cable-placement methods.
Experience operating Larson cable/fiber placement trailers and Hurricane fiber blowers is strongly preferred and is a key qualification for this position. Candidates should also have experience with, or the mechanical aptitude to operate, other fiber-blowing and cable-placement equipment.
Install underground fiber-optic cable through conduit, innerduct, and multi-duct systems.
Set up, operate, and maintain Larson cable/fiber placement trailers, Hurricane fiber blowers, and associated equipment.
Operate pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical fiber-blowing systems, cable pushers, compressors, and winches.
Safely load, secure, transport, stage, and handle fiber reels.
Determine appropriate fiber-placement methods based on conduit size, cable type, route conditions, footage, and project specifications.
Monitor air pressure, cable-feed speed, pushing force, and cable tension to ensure proper installation and prevent fiber damage.
Prepare conduit for installation, including rodding, proofing, mandreling, cleaning, and lubrication.
Identify blocked, damaged, flooded, or compromised conduit and communicate field issues promptly.
Place fiber through handholes, vaults, pedestals, cabinets, and other underground telecommunications structures.
Maintain proper cable slack and coil management at designated locations.
Assist with conventional cable-pulling methods, service-drop placement, drop-bury operations, and directional drilling crews when needed.
Read and interpret construction prints, fiber routes, maps, conduit assignments, and project specifications.
Accurately document installed footage, routes, reel assignments, photographs, redlines, and as-built information.
Inspect and maintain assigned trucks, trailers, fiber blowers, compressors, tools, and equipment.
Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and jobsite safety procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional jobsite.
Previous experience in underground telecommunications, fiber construction, cable placement, or closely related construction preferred.
Hands-on experience with Larson cable/fiber placement trailers and Hurricane fiber blowers highly preferred.
Working knowledge of fiber-blowing principles, compressors, pneumatic systems, and proper cable-handling practices.
Understanding of cable limitations, minimum bend radius, pulling tension, air pressure, and safe fiber-placement procedures.
Ability to safely operate specialized fiber-placement equipment and perform basic mechanical troubleshooting.
Ability to read and interpret OSP construction prints, maps, and underground fiber routes.
Familiarity with conduit systems, handholes, vaults, pedestals, and other telecommunications infrastructure.
Ability to accurately document installed footage and completed cable routes for as-built records.
Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail.
Dependable attendance, punctuality, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a field crew.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions and perform physically demanding construction work.
Ability to travel and work extended hours when project schedules require it.
