General Position Description:
Plans, schedules, and monitors the efficient movement of material from purchasing to production. Develops raw material requirements and scheduling requirements from engineering specifications and production schedules and coordinates material movement (Will use Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system.) Will negotiate lead times with suppliers and manage schedules for timely delivery.

Specifics:
• Must be able to evaluate suppliers on the basis of price, quality, service support, availability, reliability, and selection.
• Must have ability to negotiate and supervise supply contracts.
• Must have a working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased, as well as the ability to analyze technical data in suppliers’ proposals.
• Ability to work out problems that may occur with a supplier, because the success of the relationship affects our firm’s performance.
• Must work closely with other employees in our organization when deciding on purchases, for example, before submitting an order, they might discuss the design of custom-made products with company design engineers, talk about problems involving the quality of purchased goods with quality assurance and production supervisors, or mention shipment problems to the receiving department.
• Experience with MRP system; Visual software which will manage most of the routine tasks, enabling the Buyer/Planner to concentrate on the analytical and qualitative aspects of the job. This software is used to obtain instant and accurate product and price listings, to track inventory levels, to process orders, and to help determine when to make purchases. This system will also maintain lists of bids and offers, record the history of supplier performance, and issue purchase orders.
• Must know how to use both Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel software, as well as the Internet.
