    Position Purpose

    The Butcher Block Supervisor is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the service meat and seafood counter while delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining product quality standards, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. This position leads department team members, assists with merchandising and inventory management, and helps drive sales and profitability through effective execution of operational standards.

    Key Responsibilities Department Operations

    • Oversee daily activities of the service meat and seafood counter.
    • Ensure products are properly stocked, rotated, displayed, and merchandised.
    • Maintain attractive, fully stocked service cases to maximize sales and customer satisfaction.
    • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to meet sales demands while controlling shrink.
    • Verify pricing, signage, and promotional displays are accurate and current.
    • Ensure production and service areas remain clean, organized, and properly maintained.

    Customer Service

    • Provide outstanding customer service at all times.
    • Assist customers with product selection, meal solutions, cooking recommendations, and special orders.
    • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
    • Build customer loyalty through product knowledge and personalized service.
    • Promote department programs, seasonal items, and promotional products.

    Leadership and Team Development

    • Supervise, coach, and support department associates during daily operations.
    • Assist with onboarding and training new employees.
    • Delegate tasks and monitor performance to ensure operational efficiency.
    • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
    • Reinforce company policies, procedures, and customer service expectations.

    Food Safety and Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
    • Monitor proper handling, storage, labeling, and rotation of products.
    • Conduct routine quality and freshness checks.
    • Ensure all department equipment is operated safely and maintained properly.
    • Support successful completion of company audits and regulatory inspections.

    Financial Performance

    • Assist in achieving department sales, gross profit, labor, and shrink objectives.
    • Monitor product movement and identify opportunities to improve sales and reduce waste.
    • Support inventory accuracy and expense control initiatives.
    • Participate in merchandising efforts to maximize profitability.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Previous meat, seafood, or food service experience required.
    • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, merchandising, and inventory management practices.
    • Strong customer service and communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
    • Ability to lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance when necessary.
    • Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.
    • Ability to safely operate knives, slicers, scales, wrapping equipment, and other department tools.

    Work Environment

    • Retail grocery meat and seafood service department.
    • Frequent exposure to cold temperatures, moisture, and food preparation equipment.
    • Flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
