    Business Systems Analyst / Product Owner
    Location: Charlotte NC (hybrid)
    Duration: 4+ months contract
     
    Position Summary:
    • We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Business Systems Analyst / Product Owner to bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions. This role combines business analysis, systems analysis, and product ownership responsibilities.
    • The ideal candidate will be responsible for understanding business processes, gathering and documenting requirements, evaluating system capabilities, managing the product backlog, and ensuring solutions align with business objectives and technical architecture.
     
    Key Responsibilities
    Business Analysis
    • Engage with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements.
    • Translate business needs into functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
    • Facilitate requirements workshops, stakeholder interviews, and discovery sessions.
    • Create process flow diagrams, use cases, and data flow documentation.
    • Analyze current-state processes and identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities.
    • Support project planning, estimation, prioritization, and change management.
    • Collaborate with development, QA, UX/UI, and business teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
    • Plan and coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with business stakeholders.
    • Track and manage requirements changes through appropriate change control processes.
    • Prepare presentations, status reports, and project updates for leadership and stakeholders.
     
    Systems Analysis
    • Evaluate existing systems, platforms, and infrastructure to identify technical constraints and opportunities.
    • Define system requirements, technical specifications, integration points, and dependencies.
    • Analyze and document system architecture, data flows, and interactions between applications.
    • Perform feasibility studies, impact assessments, and risk analysis for proposed system changes.
    • Collaborate with developers and architects on solution design and technical approaches.
    • Support system configuration, environment setup, deployment planning, and production releases.
    • Troubleshoot system issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend solutions.
    • Design and document database schemas, data mappings, and ETL processes.
    • Review and validate API contracts, integration patterns, and data exchange formats.
    • Partner with infrastructure and DevOps teams to address performance, scalability, and security requirements.
    • Develop and maintain technical specifications and product documentation.
    • Participate in code reviews and QA activities to ensure delivered solutions meet requirements.
    • Support production releases, smoke testing, and post-deployment validation.
     
    Product Owner Responsibilities
    • Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring it is prioritized, refined, and aligned with business objectives.
    • Define and communicate product vision, roadmap, and release plans.
    • Write, refine, and prioritize user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
    • Make prioritization decisions by balancing business value, technical debt, stakeholder needs, scope, and timelines.
    • Participate in sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
    • Review completed work and accept or reject deliverables based on acceptance criteria and Definition of Done.
    • Gather feedback from end users, stakeholders, and analytics to guide product decisions.
    • Collaborate with UX/UI teams to support an effective user experience.
    • Manage stakeholder expectations through regular communication, demonstrations, and progress updates.
    • Conduct competitive analysis and market research when needed to support product direction.
    • Coordinate cross-team dependencies and align delivery timelines across workstreams.
    • Represent the voice of the customer and business within the development team.
    • Make appropriate trade-off decisions involving scope, timeline, quality, and technical considerations.
     
    Required Qualifications
    • 3+ years of experience in Business Analysis, Systems Analysis, Product Ownership, or a combination of these areas.
    • Strong experience with requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation.
    • Experience creating user stories, use cases, functional specifications, and technical requirements.
    • Demonstrated experience managing and prioritizing a product backlog.
    • Experience with process modeling and documentation tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, or similar.
    • Understanding of system architecture, databases, data flows, and integration patterns.
    • Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to query and analyze data.
    • Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum and/or SAFe methodologies.
    • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, or similar project management and collaboration tools.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholder expectations.
    • Comfortable making prioritization and trade-off decisions in a fast-paced environment.
     
    Preferred Qualifications
    • CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, CSBA, CSPO, or PSPO certification.
    • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
    • Experience in sales, marketing, operations, or other business-focused domains.
    • Knowledge of REST/SOAP APIs, middleware, and enterprise integration patterns.
    • Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
    • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
    • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Splunk or CloudWatch.
    • Demonstrated experience delivering products from concept through launch.
    • Experience facilitating stakeholder workshops and design-thinking sessions.
    • Experience working as a SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager.
